The first time Chris Evert and Martina Navratilova stepped onto a tennis court together, the world scarcely noticed. Only a few hundred spectators saw the pert 18-year-old beat the scrappy 16-year-old Czech in 1973. “I remember that she was fat,” Evert recalled. “She was very emotional on the court, whining if she didn't feel she was playing well. But I remember thinking, if she loses weight, we’re all in trouble.” Said Navratilova, “My goal was for her to remember my name.” Eighty matches later – amid the extraordinary growth of women’s tennis – Evert not only remembered, but became a tried and true friend and confidante, remarkable considering the two appeared to be polar opposites in upbringing, life styles and personal relationships. Through a series of personal conversations between Evert and Navratilova, filmmakers Nancy Stern Winters and Lisa Lax, along with producer Hannah Storm, will tell the story of one of the greatest one-on-one sports rivalries and capture these two extraordinary athletes’ views on tennis and an ever-changing world. watch

"America's Heroes: A Salute to Our Veterans" begins with Saturday's College GameDay (Nov. 6, 9am/8c, ESPNU and 10am/9c, ESPN), which will feature a profile of Indiana University defensive end Kevin Bush, who returned to college football after serving two and half years in the U.S. Army, including a stint in Iraq.

Daytime SportsCenter Launches Monday

You might say Hannah Storm and her husband Dan Hicks are both back in the swim. As Storm begins hosting ESPN's new live weekday SportsCenter Monday in the 9 a.m. to noon/ET timeslot, Hicks is on the other side of the world calling Olympic swimming events in Beijing for NBC.

"It's a funny parallel, because he does swimming every four years," says Storm, an NBC Sports veteran who has also worked the Olympics. "We were talking about how you've got to crank those muscles back up and try to remember what it's like. It's the same thing here. I haven't done sports in a long time, haven't done a highlight-intensive show since my CNN years Then boom, you're doing it on SportsCenter, the greatest, most iconic franchise show in sports television." read more
