William Shatner and Gregory Smith
OK, when did Rookie Blue get so good?!
ABC's Canadian cop show returned last night and we gotta say, this thing deserves more than a summer fill-in slot. It's like Grey's with a badge and less Shonda-isms.
For its third-season premiere, the series — about recent police-academy graduates cracking crimes and yeah, hooking up — trotted out William Shatner for a guest spot as a drunk driver who winds up leading the 15 Division to a twisted kidnapping case. Being Shatner, there was a fair share of over-the-top dramatics, but the frequent flares of comedy, and the super-likable ensemble (particularly Missy Peregrym and Gregory Smith) more than made up for those moments. Oh, and the closing scene with his character's recently recovered granddaughter was a total eye-wetter. We are not ashamed to admit that.

Gregory Smith
After playing Treat Williams' introspective son, Ephram Brown, for family drama Everwood's four-season run, Gregory Smith was determined to break out of the tortured-teen box for his next television role. As cocky cop Dov Epstein on ABC's surprise hit Rookie Blue (Thursday, 9/8c, ABC), the 27-year-old actor is doing just that...

Virgina Madsen (Scoundrels) and Rhona Mitra (The Gates)
It's no longer news that summer is among TV's busiest seasons — but this year, cable is getting more competition than usual with scripted fare from the networks. The difference being that cable channels (USA, FX, TNT, Syfy, ABC Family and the pay giants, to name a few) tend to put their best foot forward with critically championed signature shows. The networks? Not so much.
Still, ABC is going unusually gung-ho, launching three new dramas of varying quality and distinction within a single week. Its Sunday combo of the whimsical Scoundrels and the sinister The Gates at least aims for something a bit different, while Thursday's Rookie Blue misfires with a tired arsenal of generic cop-show clichés.
Rookie doesn't try hard enough to stand out, while the Sunday shows may be guilty of trying a bit too hard...

Gregory Smith
Quite possibly.
This much is certain — Everwood alum Gregory Smith is among the ensemble of guest stars on board for the 13th episode of Eli Stone's second season. Given recent events and scheduling announcements made by ABC, that outing would appear to be the Greg Berlanti-created legal drama's swan song.
Though unconfirmed, it appears that Smith will be playing ...

OK, I know you're probably sick of me touting another episode of my Ausiello Report vodcast as "the best one ever," but this time it's really true. Seriously! Not only is it jam-packed with exclusive scoop including news of a pivotal Grey's Anatomy character's return and a Nip/Tuck plot that's so gross I just had to reenact it but it also features a live, in-studio visit from one of my all-time favorite Everwood peeps, the sorely missed Gregory Smith! Told ya: Best. Vodcast. Ever.Click here to watch, and then use that nifty white box below to tell me if it lived up to all the hype.

Question: Any news on what the cast of Everwood is up to now that the show is over? If I can no longer watch them on one of the best shows on TV, I'd like to follow their careers.
Answer: Compiling a list like that seems really tedious and time-consuming. In other words, it's the perfect job for TV Guide's summer intern, Northwestern senior Laura Moore! Here's what she found out:
Emily VanCamp: According to her publicist, "Emily's moving to Los Angeles for the first time since she started acting. Her experience on the show was an incredible journey and, though she’s very sad to leave her Everwood family, she is excited about the opportunities ahead and is ready for a new challenge." Last summer, Em shot the coming-of-age indie film Black Irish, starring Will & Grace's

Everwood
After four seasons, WB fan favorite Everwood (Mondays at 9 pm/ET) will say its final goodbye next week (at a special time, 8 pm). In Part 1 of this Q&A, executive producer Rina Mimoun, who has worked with series creator Greg Berlanti to craft the drama since its inception, recounted this season's big twists as well as the campaign to score the show a berth on the CW network. Here, she talks to TVGuide.com about what wound up being the series finale and hints at how fans can continue to get their Everwood fix.
TVGuide.com: Reflecting on the show's fourth season, which story line has seemed to generate the most buzz with fans?

Two of the most rapturously romantic lump-in-the-throat moments I've seen on TV this season have taken place in a mountain town called Everwood, home to TV's best-written, best-acted and most touching family drama (Thursdays at 9 pm/ET on WB).
Both scenes involve the endearing odd couple of Bright Abbott (Chris Pratt), a former jerk and not-quite-reformed slacker, and Hannah Rogers (Sarah Drew), a bookish mouse who blossoms in his presence. In a show bursting with lovably empathetic characters caught up in turbulent family and personal relationships, the Bright-Hannah combo has sent Everwood into heights of sentimental transcendence.

Question: Is the big twist on Everwood that Reid is not actually gay?
Answer: Let's ask the guy at the center of the big gay mystery, Justin Baldoni. "I can tell you that by the seventh episode, there is definitely some drama that ensues in the whole Ephram-Amy-Reid triangle," he says. "As you can imagine, Ephram being Amy's old boyfriend and us living together and her having a big crush on me is obviously going to complicate things. But Reid is a really good guy. He's kind of oblivious to everything. He's so wrapped up in med school — that's really his priority — that he doesn't really get involved in the whole triangle thing until it kind of hits him in the face." One other thing you can expect in the seventh episode: Another shot of Baldoni's 26-pack, which could very well become a recurring character itself if Everwood producers have their way. "I don't mind [the shirtless scenes]," he says. "It give
