NCIS Boss on Double-Death Twist: What's Next for Ziva and Vance?

When NCIS goes for an emotional gut-punch, it always hits hard.

In last week's episode, the veteran CBS drama walloped its audience with not one, but two deaths, as a shooting spree at the home of Director Vance (Rocky Carroll) took the lives of both Ziva's father Eli (Michael Nouri) and Vance's wife Jackie (Paula Newsome).

"I just couldn't help myself," executive producer Gary Glasberg tells TVGuide.com of the body count. "This is a story line that we've actually been thinking about for a long time — all the way back to last spring. I pulled Rocky Carroll aside and told him I was thinking of this scenario, and we really talked it through. We talked about the doors it would open for his character and things that this character would have to face as a single dad and as a widower. It all seemed exciting. It was new material and a new direction for Vance."

Casting News: Timothy Hutton Gains Leverage, and More

Timothy Hutton, who last tempted TV viewers with last season's Kidnapped, has landed the lead in the TNT drama pilot Leverage, says the Reporter. Hutton plays an investigator for Big Insurance who turns around and targets greedy corporations when his dying son is denied medical treatment.... Kevin Spacey has joined Recount, HBO's movie about the bungled 2000 election, playing a top aide to Vice President Al Gore.... Gail O'Grady, Greg Germann and Robert Mailhouse will star in All I Want for Christmas, a Hallmark flick about a single mom whose sad little dating life miraculously turns around. That's lovely and all, but what does it have to do with my two front teeth? read more

What happened to the Ally ...

Question: What happened to the Ally McBeal guy (I have no idea what his name is) who was in charge of the science lab in the pilot episode of Eureka? I have watched the second episode several times now, and they don't make any mention of him. Will he be back, or has he been permanently replaced by Allison's surprise hubby? Answer: That's Greg Germann you're referring to, and he is officially (or at least in retrospect) being referred to as a guest star in the opener. As the show developed beyond the pilot, his character was dropped and the Nathan Stark character was added. Germann will resurface later this season as part of the cast of ABC's mid-season comedy In Case of Emergency ... read more

24"Relax, he's really good at this." You said it, Chloe. Jack's back, and all is wrong with the world once again — which means my prime time's finally got the jaw-dropping, plot-twisting, rock-'em-sock-'em roller-coaster ride it's been missing since May. (Sorry, Idol. I've missed you, too, but deep down you've always known you're just my midweek diversion until that next hour starts ticking away.) Let's sum up, shall we? Former president Palmer? Dead. (I know!) Michelle Dessler? Dead. Tony Almeida? Critical condition. Chloe O'Brian? Still the coolest cranky-pants techie around. Palmer's brother Wayne? Grieving, willing to help Jack, and hot-hot-hot as ever. (Helloooo, D.B. Woodside!) First Lady Martha Logan? Nuttier than a fruitcake. President Logan? Complet read more
