Patty Goes to Therapy? Things Get Flip-Turned Upside Down on Season 4 of Damages

When Damages returns Wednesday (at 10 on DirecTV) for its fourth season, Patty Hewes will be alone and seeing a shrink, while Ellen Parsons takes aim at her first big case against a powerful private military contractor.

Turns out three long years have passed and much has changed since that day on the dock in the third season finale when Ellen asked Patty: "Was it all worth it?" Series executive producers Glenn and Todd A. Kessler and Daniel Zelman say it's a question that will continue to be answered by both women throughout the season. They talk to TVGuide.com about the changes in Patty, why Ellen keeps coming back for more, the show's move from FX to DirecTV and their early plans for Season 5.

Damages to Debut on DirecTV in July

Season 4 of Damages will premiere July 13 on DirecTV.

"The opportunity to be on DirecTV this season allows us to explore another chapter in the lives of Patty Hewes and Ellen Parsons, and push the envelope in terms of storytelling and content," series creators Todd A. Kessler, Daniel Zelman and Glenn Kessler said Wednesday in a statement.

The show will be carried Wednesdays at 10 p.m. ET/PT on the Audience Network, which is the new name for DirecTV's 101 Network.

Damages: Patty and Ellen Will Face "Major Upheaval" Soon

Damages fans have been slowly putting together the pieces of Ellen's hostage-at-gunpoint flash-forward all season, and when the final piece falls into place, big changes are coming.

"There's gonna be some major, major upheaval in Patty's life, and Ellen has some coming in her life as well," cocreator Glenn Kessler says. "The ground is going to shift considerably. Many of the things we've proposed throughout the season certainly do get knotted up, and these women end the season on very different ground than they started."

But Kessler doesn't get to just write the twists and turns heading Ellen's way — he literally plays a role in them as FBI Special Agent L.J. Werner. Along with his partner Agent Randall Harrison (Mario Van Peebles), Werner has been working Ellen as an informant against her boss. But Patty may not be the only one with secrets to uncover.
