First Look at X-Files Movie Trailer: Is Love in the Air? | Movie News | 3/27/2008
Straight from Wednesday evening's X-Files panel at the Paley Festival, we got a first look at a new trailer for the upcoming movie. Directed by Chris Carter, there are plenty of scenes with David Duchovny and Gillian Anderson — and love might even be in the air. In one scene, for example, Mulder says to Scully, "I need you on this [case]." Scully responds, "That's what scares me." In another scene, a romantic mood finds Mulder with his hand on Scully's face. The trailer concludes with a shot of them walking away from a helicopter together, as a voice-over from Duchovny says, "I want to believe." Check out this guerilla footage:Shortly after the first screening of the teaser, the fans asked Chris Carter for a second look, and he happily agreed. The New X Files Movie: Got Burning Questions? | Today's News: Our Take | 3/24/2008
As reported earlier this month by TVGuide.com, The X Files will be featured at the Paley Television Festival on March 26. The night will offer a retrospective of the nine-season series and will also show the highly anticipated movie trailer. While the new X Files flick isn't being released until July 25, there's a ton of buzz about the return of two of TV's most beloved characters, Mulder (David Duchovny) and Scully (Gillian Anderson), to the silver screen. Though the plot is under tight wraps, we do know that the still-untitled second movie looks like a scary supernatural (non-alien) thriller. Joining Duchovny and Anderson will be Amanda Peet and rapper-turned-actor Xzibit as FBI agents who are also investigating the case.So are you a former or current X-Phile? Didn't your mama tell you never to mess with Masterpiece fans? The discussion boards on the new website for PBS' recently overhauled Masterpiece Theatre series are aflame with controversy — and it's all about the Masterpiece theme song. The iconic trumpet fanfare — originally composed for the court of Louis XV by Jean-Joseph Mouret — that has introduced Masterpiece for some 35 years has now been replaced by a tinny, synthetic-sounding something or other composed by an outfit called Man Made Music. And old-guard PBS fans have their bloomers in a bunch about it. The new music is part of PBS' plan to revamp its oldest program by updating the look and feel of Masterpiece's introductory segments, replacing the host with Bleak House star Gillian Anderson, and splitting the season into three separately themed sections — Masterpiece Classic in the spring, Masterpiece Mystery! in the summer and Masterpiece Contemporary in the fall. Apparently, the truth is still out there. Which would explain why The X-Files will be back out there July 25, when the second movie version of the series hits theaters. Plot details are more closely guarded than an alien autopsy, but creator Chris Carter does have a few clues to offer those eager X-Files fans who have been waiting for more since the Fox show ended in 2002. "This is really a continuation of the series, imagining how the characters' lives have evolved," explains Carter, who cowrote and is directing the movie. "It's a stand-alone story that owes everything to the series, but not the mythology of the series. What we'll be dealing with is government-based as far as the conspiracy goes, but expect this not to be a revisitation [of the show's convoluted conspiracy]."FBI agents Fox Mulder (David Duchovny) and Dana Scully (Gillian Anderson) will still be at the center of the story, and Studio 60's Amanda Peet and rapper Xzibit have been added to the cast as fellow agents.... read more

The truth isn't out there, it's right here: X-Files leading man David Duchovny recently hooked up with Gillian Anderson and their former series' creator, Chris Carter, to discuss a second movie follow-up, SCI FI Wire reports. (Go ahead and plotz. I'll wait.) "It was more emotional than I would have thought it was [going to be]," he said of the confab. "If you spend that much time with people and go through that much, there's a lot of residual feeling." X-2 is tentatively scheduled to shoot in December, with Carter directing from a script that he penned with X-phile Frank Spotnitz. "I want us to go out and do what the show always did best, which is really smart, scary, ultimately ambiguous stuff," Duchovny said. "There's been a lot of shows and movies that kind of tread the same area, or tried to, and I think we always did it best.
