The California Supreme Court's decision to uphold the state's gay-marriage ban won't affect George Takei's marriage, but the actor is still unhappy with the ruling.
Although the court upheld Proposition 8, a ballot initiative passed by voters in November that banned gay marriage, the ruling held that the nearly 18,000 marriages that took place before the vote — including Takei's Sept. 14 wedding to longtime partner Brad Altman — are still valid. Takei said the ruling is bittersweet.
"They decided to be indecisive," Takei tells TVGuide.com. "It was a ruling ...

The vote to ban gay marriage in California disappointed Star Trek alum George Takei and many other who seized the chance to tie the knot earlier this year when the state's highest court ruled such nuptials were legal.
Takei — who made Brad Altman his husband in September —was quick to weigh in on unofficial results that showed voters on Tuesday approved the constitutional ban known as Proposition 8.
"It was astounding to think that the hard-won equality that made my recent marriage to Brad Altman [possible] would no longer be possible for others," Takei told UsMagazine.com.
Ellen DeGeneres, who in August exchanged vows with actress Portia de Rossi, at first declined to comment on the outcome ...

Star Trek's Captain Kirk and Sulu have had their differences, but the real-life pair are now facing the kind of earthly problems that miscommunication between old friends can create.
William Shatner lashed out at George Takei in a video Wednesday, apparently out of the belief that his former costar didn't invite him to his wedding this fall.
"The whole thing makes me feel badly," Shatner said in the video. "Poor man. There is such a sickness there..." More, after the jump.

George Takei, aka Star Trek's original Sulu, is getting married. Midway through George Takei's cheerful yet depressing mauling of a country-music classic last night, I wondered if this is what it would be like to drop acid in Branson, while I was also wondering what a world would be like if so-called stars would be so kind as to keep their hidden talents hidden. No such luck. Look what Dancing with the Stars hath wrought: CBS' cheesy circus of marginal celeb-reality: Secret Talents of the Stars, which premiered Tuesday night as a flat nightcap to a long night of unimpressive reality-show competition. (For Cheers & Jeers' take on this debacle, go here.) Is it wrong of me to think the only truly genuine performance I saw Tuesday night was that adorable 8-year-old couple doing the paso doble as part of the Dancing results-show filler?Im with Clint Black, who in his affable but instantly forgettable Secret Talents stand-up routine quipped, You what I cant stand? These TV shows where people compete and America votes. You know what...

Jeers to CBS for jumping on and falling off the celeb-competition bandwagon with Secret Talents of the Stars. The Eye network's pathetic entry is hosted by John O'Hurley, but this feels more akin to his work on Family Feud than Dancing with the Stars (not to mention Seinfeld). He introduces contestants like Olympic skater-turned-contortionist Sasha Cohen, who again fails to match the gold-medal standard set by her predecessor, Dancing fave Kristi Yamaguchi. The motley panel of judges features R&B singer Brian McKnight, the unsinkable-until-now Debbie Reynolds and producer/designated hater Gavin Polone (who made a tasteless Brokeback Mountain joke about gay Star Trek vet George Takei that would've made Simon Cowell wince even more than Sulu's "singing"). Note to CBS: Some things should be kept secret. For another take on Secret Talents of the Stars, read the Roush Dispatch.
