Over the summer, veteran CBS procedural CSI had the unenviable task of replacing its series lead for the second time in three seasons. And while a number of stars' names were bandied about, executive producers Carol Mendelsohn and Don McGill could think of only one man to follow in the footsteps of Laurence Fishburne and William Petersen: Ted Danson.

"He's able to do so many things. He's such a smart actor," McGill tells TVGuide.com. "We sort of had a rough idea of what this character of D.B. Russell was. Then, when we saw Ted's name and thought he might be available, I think we both just sparked. He was the guy that we were thinking about."

As part of Addison's baby-making plans, Kate Walsh says her character will be back "in the stirrups" in a scene that should leave viewers in "utter shock." Remember, adds Kate, "The last time we saw Addison like that was on Grey's Anatomy when she was living in the woods with Derek, and Bailey found poison oak on her vajayjay."

The trend this season at most networks is that their fall lineups are being upstaged by the anticipation for more promising shows being held for midseason (NBC's Smash and Awake, ABC's Good Christian Belles and The River, to name a choice few). As I was quoted saying in a recent critics' poll: "It's going to be like Christmas for me at midseason, but right now it's kind of like I'm opening underwear."
It's a different situation at CBS, which has such a stable and successful prime-time schedule that there's little need for midseason replacements (only a few have been announced so far, and none has generated any real buzz). At the summer TCA press ...

Justin Bieber will return to CSI for an upcoming episode, CBS announced Tuesday.
Bieber will reprise the role of Jason McCann, a troubled boy whose brother was killed in the Season 11 premiere. Jason returns when he calls Nick (George Eads) to alert him that he's in imminent danger.

What's this I hear about Brennan solving her own murder on Bones? — Maggie
ADAM: Well, Brennan obviously isn't the corpse, but her resemblance to the victim is uncanny. Executive producer Stephen Nathan says the experience will be educational for Bones. "Brennan gets to look at herself objectively, which is something she's never really been able to do," he says. "She sees herself in a new light, and that obviously will change her character to a certain extent."
