January 18, 2007: Six Days, Part 2

How many of you were a complete mess while watching this episode, like I was? Out. Of. Control. Hey — it's not a shocker when Grey's Anatomy makes you cry — I'm used to getting teary-eyed at least once per episode. But multiple times throughout the hour — that only happens once or twice per season for me. Wow. Can someone please give T.R. Knight an Emmy, Golden Globe or SAG nomination? To the best of my knowledge, he has never been individually nominated for any TV acting award, and after tonight, he's due. He had so many award-worthy scenes, starting with the moment when George figured out that Webber and Bailey had abided by Mr. O'Malley's wishes and given him the surgery, even after seeing that his cancer had spread. "He didn't know any better! You knew better!" Then, I lost it again when George spoke to his on-life-support father and admitted to lying to him as a child, apologized and asked him to "fight a little harder — that'd be good" and then kissed him. ... read more

January 11, 2007: Six Days, Part 1

The title of tonight's episode was "Six Days." But it's been a long six weeks since we've had the privilege of a new episode. I've missed my Grey Thursdays. Do you agree with me that it was worth the wait? First things first — it's about frickin' time Izzie deposited that check! I loved George saying to her, after the check fell off the fridge yet again: "I just dropped 8.7 million dollars on the floor. You need to deposit that check!" I imagined hearing millions of homes screaming: "Yes!" So it was quite appropriate for Izzie to be so hysterical at the bank toward the end, loudly crying: "I'm supposed to do something good! Can you just deposit it already?" Since this was part one of a two-parter, I think it's pretty obvious that Izzie will use some of the money to pay for patient Heather's expensive spine-straightening surgery next week, especially since Heather's insurance won't cover it. ABC likes to give the fabulous Mae Whitman from Arrested Development work — first D... read more

November 30, 2006: Don't Stand So Close to Me

Last season, back in April, I made a comment that I was officially old since Mare Winningham was playing a soon-to-be grandmother. That's because, even though I know she was Oscar-nominated for Georgia, I will always think of Mare as Wendy, the gal that Billy (Rob Lowe) discovered was wearing a girdle in St. Elmo's Fire. Are you with me here? But it was good to see her back tonight as Susan Grey, the current wife of Meredith's dad, Thatcher, and the timing made sense since Susan and Thatcher's daughter, Molly (Mandy Siegfried), was there for an emergency C-section. I won't refer to Susan as Meredith's stepmother since Meredith doesn't seem to want to associate herself with Susan and Molly: "You are not my family." Oh, Meredith. So harsh. But I have friends who are in the same boat — they don't really want to become close with their father's new family. I did kind of want Meredith to take Susan up on her offer to become part of their family. What made things better was the poign... read more

November 23, 2006: From a Whisper to a Scream

Hours after the effects of the tryptophan from the fabulous Thanksgiving dinner I had with friends wore off, I gave thanks for a new episode of Grey's. This episode was anything but a turkey. How many of you were screaming "yes!" to the TV as soon as you heard Sandra Oh's voice in the opening narration rather than Ellen Pompeo's? Not that I dislike Meredith Grey being the show's narrator — it is called Grey’s Anatomy. But it's a nice diversion when someone else takes over for a change. Last time this happened, it was T.R. Knight's narrative voice and I remember how most of you were thrilled and only a few of you insisted on having it be Meredith's voice. It made such good sense for Cristina to narrate at the opening and closing of the show since it was a heavily Cristina-centric episode. In fact, the entire super-sized hour and 10 minutes made such good sense, I kept thinking how satisfied I was. In fact, in the spirit of Thanksgiving, I'd like to send a thank you note to ... read more

November 16, 2006: Staring at the Sun

The three words that kept going through my head while watching this episode were, "It's about time...."— It's about time... that someone (George) noticed that Cristina's been covering for Burke's shaky hand.— It's about time... that Meredith stopped being dark and twisty and started having a more positive outlook on life.— It's about time... that Alex kissed Izzie again. Even though she wasn't ready for it, it got her mind off her mourning.— It's about time... that Richard focused on Adele and stopped visiting Ellis.— It's about time... that someone (Addison) witnessed Sloan asking his interns to do menial tasks.— It's about time... that Derek attempted to be more civil with Addison while at work ("bright and shiny") and to "peacefully coexist" with her.— It's about time... that someone besides Cristina (George) offered Burke some help.— It's about time... that George's family realized what a good doctor he is, thanks to Cristina.— It's a... read more
