  • Clooney on ER Rumor: There's "No Reason" to Return | Today's News: Our Take | 3/18/2008
Talk that George Clooney might be lured back for ER's 15th (and final?) season is being shrugged off by the movie star himself. Weighing in on the recent rash of rumors, Clooney tells TV's Extra, "The truth of the matter is they wouldn't ask, and there would really be no reason for it." (Fair point, seeing as the Cloon was already top-secretly employed to lure Julianna Margulies' Carol off the show.) Clooney tells ET that he was so perplexed by the rumblings that just the other day, when he ran into John Wells, "I said to him, 'What the hell happened?' He said, 'I don't know where that came from.'"What's your take? When ER eventually rides off into the Chicago sunset, should Clooney oblige his career-launching pad a small cameo?Use our Online Video Guide to catch up on ER. read more
  • DVD Tuesday: Multiple Oscar-nominee Michael Clayton on DVD | Ask FlickChick | 2/20/2008
DVD Tuesday: Michael Clayton — cynicism, disillusionment and all those Oscar nominations!Michael Clayton has been nominated for seven Academy Awards, including best picture, so now's the time catch up with it on DVD. Michael Clayton (George Clooney) is a lawyer, but Michael Clayton isn't a courtroom drama: It's dedicated to the proposition that the real drama of legal proceedings takes place everywhere but in court. And Clayton is the guy who, in most films about the law, would be the bad guy: An in-house fixer for the white-shoe Manhattan firm of Kenner, Bach & Ledeen. He brokers private deals, talks reason into arrogant clients convinced they can get away with murder and babysits for staffers with problems, like senior partner Arthur Edens (Tom Wilkinson), a great guy as long as he takes his psychotropic meds. The firm needs Clayton enough that they've bailed him out of his own messes, notably a recurring gambling problem. But he's not quite their sort, a blue-collar... read more
  • Oscars Preview: Inside This Year's Governor's Ball | Oscars Live Recap and News Blog | 2/20/2008
With the Academy Awards celebrating its 80th year this Sunday, Feb. 24, it seems only fitting that the Governor’s Ball roll out the red carpet in grand fashion. Thus the occasion’s chosen color scheme: red-carpet red and the gold of an Oscar statuette. Inside the doors of Hollywood & Highland Center’s Grand Ballroom, the scene will be one of elegance and contemporary glamour with a multilevel layout featuring nine different sections, all with their own flair. Red roses with sprays of yellow gemstar will adorn the tables along with Kartell lamps. Whimsical glass bubbles set off by firefly lights will float from the ceiling. Taking the stage will be the 12-member orchestra Pink Martini. Further entertainment comes by way of music stylist and radio host Jason Bentley.Beyond celebrity attendees like George Clooney and Julia Roberts, the main attraction of the annual event is always cuisine created by the world-renowned chef Wolfgang Puck. "Simple and refined, that's... read more

  • Oscar Nominees Clooney and Cotillard Do Lunch | Party Central: The Latest Buzz from Your Favorite Stars | 2/5/2008
Marion Cotillard is pinching herself. "Under the makeup [my arm] is blue," the French actress told reporters on Monday, showing off her bicep. As the writers' strike seems to be nearing its end, the honorees at the annual Academy Awards Nominees Luncheon could finally focus on something other than the looming threat of yet another show cancellation. And Cotillard, nominated for her performance in La Vie en Rose, is focusing on George Clooney. "I'm very, very happy to share moments with [him]. It's like, 'Yeah, yeah, French girl. It's real.'"Clooney, who had recently returned from Darfur, managed to charm not only his fellow nominees but also the press. "I don't think you could hear her, but she asked how I look so good close up," he joked when asked about his competition in the best-actor category. The newly appointed U.N. Messenger of Peace has also been trying to facilitate negotiations between the WGA and the AMPTP and seemed hopeful that a solution is near. "There's a tentative... read more
