Raising Hope Picked Up for Second Season

Raising Hope

Fox has ordered up another season of its freshman comedy Raising Hope.

ABC renews Grey's, Castle and more — but which shows were left out?

"Raising Hope has emerged as a comedic standout: wickedly smart, hilarious and full of heart," said Fox executive Kevin Reilly Tuesday in announcing the pickup. "Greg Garcia and his great cast have established an appointment show on Tuesday nights this season, and we're confident it's just the beginning of great things to come."

On the Set: Raising Hope a Return Home for Jason Lee

Raising Hope

On the set of Raising Hope recently, Jason Lee is feeling a little out of sorts. No, it's not the gray, long-haired wig (complete with a Snooki-esque pouf). It's not the faded yellow shirt with cut-out sides and maroon, leopard print skintight pants he's wearing. And it's not the facial latex, which took at least two hours to age him 15 plus years. It's something much more familiar.

"There are probably 30 crew members on this that worked on My Name is Earl and being with Greg [Garcia] at the monitors, it literally feels like I'm on the set of Earl," Lee tells TVGuide.com. "It's really bizarre and it makes me miss Earl that... read more

First Look: Jason Lee Rocks Raising Hope

Raising Hope

Memphis Beat's Jason Lee brings some '80s glam into the lives of the Chance family on the November 30 episode of Fox's Raising Hope. He plays musician Smokey Floyd, who headlines the local market's "Grocery-Palooza" concert, much to the thrill of Burt (Garret Dillahunt).

"Jason plays this sort of aging, falling-apart, former hair-band lead singer," says Martha Plimpton. "He comes to town to help rescue my husband, who's always wanted to play in a band."

Lee, who's reteaming with Hope creator Greg Garcia (who also created Lee's 2005—2009 sitcom My Name Is Earl), spent hours in the makeup chair... read more

Jason Lee to Guest Star on Raising Hope

Jason Lee

Jason Lee has signed on to guest-star on an upcoming episode of Raising Hope, Fox announced Monday.

Lee, 40, star will play Smokey Daniels, a washed up rock-star. Daniels is hired as the main act at Grocery-Palooza, a concert at the supermarket where Sabrina (Shannon Woodward) works. In the episode, titled "Burt Rocks," Burt (Garret Dillahunt) plays backup to Smokey as he tries to relive his own rock-star years.

Martha Plimpton Shines on Raising Hope

Raising Hope

When people see Martha Plimpton, they often think, "Oh, that girl," as in the gawky teen who climbed into the caverns with Mouth, Chunk and the kid with all the cool gadgets in The Goonies. "I turned 14 on that movie," she says. "We had no idea there would be reunions and T-shirts and fan sites 25 years later!"

But while her peers hit rehab and the reality-TV circuit, the daughter of actors Keith Carradine and Shelley Plimpton became a rare thing for child stars — a character and stage actress. She filled her read more

Watercooler: Premiere Week Survival Guide, Part 1

Chuck

Don't know about you, folks, but our DVRs earned their pay last night!

With the 2010 fall TV season finally in full swing, Mondays suddenly became about a lot more than Bachelor Pads and Real Housewives. It was a new-show bonanza across the dial and honestly, it was kind of impossible to keep up. NBC gave us the always-awesome Chuck, the enticing "are they aliens?" mythology of The Event and the not-so-enticing "are they kidding us with these clichés?" of Chase. Fox dropped its soapy new Lone Star right after the season premiere of House (loved one, liked another). CBS brought back ... read more

Fall Preview: Raising Hope Delivers the Funny

Raising Hope, Lucas Neff

"There's gotta be more to life than cleaning the same pool over and over!" declares Raising Hope's 23-year-old Jimmy Chance. "There isn't," his mother replies, before heading out for a day of scrubbing toilets.

"I'm just drawn to ... read more

Bijou Philips Will Return to Raising Hope

Bijou Phillips

Though Bijou Philips' fate appears to be cemented in the pilot of new Fox comedy Raising Hope, creator and executive producer Greg Garcia confirms to TV Guide Magazine that we will be seeing the actress again. "She comes back for an episode. We shot it last week and it was very funny," he said at the Fox's PaleyFest: Fall TV Preview Party, sponsored by TV Guide Magazine, on September 13.

Critic's Notebook: Fox at TCA

James Wolk

No news wasn't good news for the press gathered at Fox's TCA day on Monday, with everyone hoping in vain for some definitive word on who'll be judging (or not) on American Idol next season. No deals, so no deal, said the side-stepping Fox execs.

Who needs judges? Let us be the judge—of Fox's new fall programming, which is the main reason summer TCA exists, after all. The good news: Fox is launching only three new shows, and one is my favorite new drama of the season and one my favorite new comedy... read more

Raising Hope's Cloris Leachman: "I'm So Sick of Betty White"

Cloris Leachman

Everyone loves Betty White, but not Cloris Leachman.

"I'm so sick of Betty White," Leachman said at the Television Critics Association's fall previews on Tuesday. "Never liked her."

The 84-year-old actress, who plays a wild, chest-baring granny in Fox's new fall comedy Raising Hope, commandeered the show's session, forcing co-star... read more
