I was in spired to write this song af ter a very up set ting mo ment: I was at Shea Sta di um watch ing the Mets vs. Hous ton, Dwight Good en vs. Nolan Ryan. I was sit ting in foul ter ri to ry in left field. I got up to get a few franks and so da for the guys, walk ing and watch ing the game and go ing down the steps, all at the same time. I was prob a bly block ing the view of peo ple- - and one guy says, "Hey, Buck wheat! Get the f- - k out of here, Buck wheat!" I had nev er heard the word used be fore like that; I was shocked. I turned around and I was just frozen. I kept walk ing and I was on line and feel ing re al ly un com fort able. I said, "Don't call me Buck wheat" to my self, and I went home and wrote the song.
