The Secret Circle
The Secret Circle's circle is broken.
Tragedy struck Chance Harbor when Charles (Gale Harold) was forced to drown Nick (Louis Hunter) in order to kill the demon that had possessed him. More unnerving than his untimely demise is that Nick was a character who not only survived the L.J. Smith novels the series is based on, but also eventually found romance with Cassie.

Thomas Dekker, Britt Robertson
Just because a show makes good programming sense doesn't make it a good program. This week's case in point: the CW's dreary and laughably derivative teenage witch-centric The Secret Circle, designed as an overly compatible companion piece to The Vampire Diaries (inspired by a series of books from the same author of the Diaries best-sellers) and produced by the same brain trust led by Kevin Williamson. It's basically the same show, only substituting witches for vamps and lacking (at least initially) the sense of humor and pacing that makes Vampire such a treat most weeks.

The Secret Circle
Move over vampires: It's time for witches to shine.
Thursday marks the premiere of The Secret Circle, a fish-out-of-water tale about an orphaned girl who discovers she's part of a secret coven of young witches who are coming into their own and discovering their powers.
For those who haven't read the L.J. Smith novels the series is based on — and even if you have, the Kevin Williamson and Andrew Miller-produced CW show will be quite different — we asked the actors portraying the six witches of the coven about what's brewing with their characters. Let's meet the witches:

Fall 2011 TV Scorecard: Which shows are returning? Which aren't?
Thomas Dekker admits it took a lot for him to return to TV, but what better reason than to play a warlock?
"I haven't done TV in a couple years now," he tells TVGuide.com. "It's a grind, it's a lot of hard work, but it's really rewarding and the show [Secret Circle] is great -- and I get to be a male witch."
Based on the popular book series of the same name by L.J. Smith, Secret Circle follows a young witch (Britt Robertson) who is the key to a battle between good and evil. Vampire Diaries' Kevin Williamson will executive-produce the CW pilot that also stars Gale Harold and Natasha Henstridge.

So far Hellcats has featured a lot of cheerleading and not so much studying, but that will change this week when Gale Harold arrives as Marti's law professor, Julian.
"He certainly gives her and the rest of the class the feeling that maybe he doesn't take her so seriously," Harold (Queer as Folk) tells TVGuide.com.
It looks like Gale Harold's character is the only person on Hellcats who's not all fired up about cheerleading. Harold joins the CW drama in episode 3 as a law professor who puts Marti (Aly Michalka) to the test.
"Julian Paris is trying to determine whether or not [Marti] is actually serious about what she's saying that she wants to do," he told TV Guide Magazine at the PaleyFest Fall TV Preview Party for the CW. "She's taken a scholarship as a cheerleader, and I don't know that he truly trusts that her intentions are actually pure."

Claire Forlani, Gary Sinise
CSI: NY's Mac Taylor (Gary Sinise) makes plenty of tough choices as the head of the crime lab, but he's about to make some difficult personal decisions as well.

In Wednesday's episode (10/9c on CBS), Mac's former lover, Peyton Driscoll (Claire Forlani) returns to New York for the first time since she abruptly dumped Mac and moved back to London.
"As far as Mac knows, that's where she is, and out of the blue, he spots her," Sinise tells TVGuide.com. "He's shocked and surprised by it. She made the choice to end the relationship — it was never something he wanted to do. I think he was a bit stunned by that, and there was never any real closure or resolution. So when he runs into her, there's some unfinished business."
Teri Hatcher, Gale Harold
