Matthew Petersen took a risk and it didn't pay off. Far from a showpiece specialist, the Top Chef: Just Desserts finalist opted to make a sugar showpiece instead of a chocolate one — which he was familiar with — in the finale, only to have head judge Johnny Iuzzini criticize him for taking the gamble. "I needed to do that to have a chance," he tells TVGuide.com. "It's not something I do. I make plated desserts. I don't make showpieces. ... But I was totally stoked [with how it turned out]. It was standing! It looked good and more importantly, I was proud of it." After two years, Richard Blais finally "exorcised his demons" about losing Season 4 of Top Chef by winning All-Stars. So does it mean more to win an all-stars edition as opposed to a regular season? Seated around a table at a lavish estate in the Bahamas, the Top Chef All-Stars judges are ready for their "last supper." The only ingredient that's missing? "I need a pillow to sit on," says Tom Colicchio, prompting guest judge Wolfgang Puck to request one as well. "Hey, Wolf, just sit on your wallet," quips Colicchio. "You'll be fine."
The judges crack up, but it's no laughing matter for the remaining cheftestants: The winner's billfold will be fattened with $200,000, the show's biggest prize ever. Snow may have blanketed the country this winter, but the sight of Padma Lakshmi in a bikini could be hot enough to melt even the thickest ice. TV Guide Magazine reports exclusively that the Top Chef host recently traded bone-chilling Manhattan for the balmy Bahamas to film the four-part All-Stars finale, which Bravo will begin airing in March.

If you ever wondered how Just Desserts judges Gail Simmons and Johnny Iuzzini manage to consume boatloads of rich, decadent sweets in one sitting during production, the answer is... well, cut back on real food. The only problem, says Simmons, is that just eating dessert isn't so good for you. "At night when we'd finish, I'd realize I didn't put anything in my mouth that has actual nutritional value to it," she says. "And at the end, I'd be craving so much saltiness. ... I don't have Johnny's metabolism." Burger and fries after dessert? Sign us up.
