Exclusive: Frank Darabont on His New TNT Show and Leaving The Walking Dead

Frank Darabont has been quiet since being fired from AMC's The Walking Dead last summer — but now he has something to talk about.

Fans of The Walking Dead were stunned last year when, just days after appearing at Comic-Con, the network severed ties with executive producer Darabont  (who was replaced at the top by veteran producer Glen Mazzara). Both Darabont and AMC declined to discuss the reasons for his departure at the time, but it was widely believed to center on budget issues.

Former Walking Dead Producer Frank Darabont Develops New TNT Drama

Nearly six months after he was fired as the executive producer of AMC's The Walking Dead, Frank Darabont is busy developing a new drama project — this time at rival TNT.

TNT has given a pilot order to L.A. Noir, which takes a look inside the seedy underbelly of Los Angeles cops and villains in the 1940s and 1950s, the heyday of L.A. noir and scandals (such as the Black Dahlia). Darabont will write and direct the pilot.

The Walking Dead Looks for Life After Frank Darabont

The Walking Dead's first season ended with a number of unanswered questions, but as the zombie drama lumbers toward its Season 2 premiere (Sunday, 9/8c, AMC), there's really only one question to be answered: Can the show live on after the exit of executive producer Frank Darabont?

Darabont, who spent years developing Robert Kirkman's graphic novel series for the small screen, was suddenly relieved of his showrunner duties in the middle of production on Season 2 and replaced by his No. 2, Glen Mazzara (The Shield). Even more confounding, the change came days after Darabont appeared at Comic-Con to promote the show. But just like the survivors of the zombie apocalypse, the show's cast and crew keep moving.

Glen Mazzara replaces Frank Darabont as Walking Dead showrunner

Mazzara certainly has some big shoes to fill. Darabont, who adapted the AMC hit from the comic books created by Robert Kirkman, parted ways with the series just days after attending its Comic-Con panel in July. (Fortunately, he had already mapped out the entire season with around eight episodes already written.)
