Comedies with an actual point of view are as rare as they are welcome — especially in a fall awash in mediocre new cookie-cutter romantic comedies. Even in a better season, ABC's provocative and very funny Black-ish (9:30/8:30c) would stand out for its broad and biting satire of an uneasily post racial society seen through a very modern-family prism. (It's also about time ABC scheduled a smart family comedy after its multiple-Emmy-winning champ Modern Family.)
Florida Georgia Line
Florida Georgia Line will perform live during the upcoming season premiere of Nashville, People reports. The country duo will perform twice that night, for both the East and West Coast broadcasts.
Our top moments of the week:
11. Best Icebreaker: Jonah Hill has been apologizing for the wrong transgression this whole time. A day after his tearful mea culpa on The Tonight Show for using an anti-gay slur, the 22 Jump Street star drops by The Colbert Report, where...
Tyler Hubbard, Luke Bryan, Brian Kelley
Are Jay Z and Solange ever going to live their elevator brawl down? (Answer: Probably not.)
At Wednesday's CMT Awards, Luke Bryan and Florida Georgia Line's Tyler Hubbard and Brian Kelley re-created the family fight.
Carrie Underwood took home the top prize at Wednesday's CMT Music Awards, winning Video of the Year for "See You Again."
The event, which took place at the Bridgestone Arena in Nashville, was hosted byVeronica Mars star Kristen Bell for the third year in a row.
George Strait was the big winner at Sunday's Academy of Country Music Awards, taking home the prize for fan-voted Entertainer of the Year.
After beating out Taylor Swift, Miranda Lambert and the show's co-hosts Luke Bryan and Blake Shelton, 61-year-old Strait said, "Wow... I always said I had the best fans in the world and I heard this was a fan-voted thing, so I rest my case ... This is so amazing. This has been an amazing past 30 years." Strait last won the award in 1990.
It was all Top 10 all the time on Wednesday's American Idol, with the 10 finalists performing Top 10 songs from 2011 or later (a.k.a. songs that will make viewers of a certain age feel very old if they are unfamiliar with them).
Throughout the course of the evening, selfies were taken, judges Harry Connick Jr. and Keith Urban did amazing impersonations of each other, and Malaya got her first bouquet of flowers (aww) from Ryan Seacrest and the Idol crew. But let's get to the performances:
Brittney Marie Cole and Brian Kelley
Florida Georgia Line's Brian Kelley has secretly married his girlfriend Brittney Marie Cole, People reports.
The couple, who have only been dating seven months, wed on Monday in an outdoor ceremony at the singer's home in Nashville.
Kelley and Cole first met each other three years ago, though both were in other relationships at the time. "She definitely caught my eye [back then]," Kelley said. "Brittney's the most beautiful woman I've ever seen. I always knew in my heart that if I were single, then I wanted a chance with her. She was my dream girl."
Justin Timberlake, Taylor Swift and Rihanna took home some of the top prizes at the American Music Awards Sunday.
Swift was the big winner, being awarded Artist of the Year. She also took home Favorite Country album for Red, and Favorite Female Artist in both the Pop/Rock and Country categories.
The Billboard Music Awards will air live Sunday, May 19 at 8/7c on ABC. And with Tracy Morgan hosting, it's sure to be a memorable one.
As Billboard announced, the event will feature performances by Justin Bieber, Selena Gomez, Ed Sheeran and more.
