  • Spent a decade of his childhood in Colombia, South America, before his architect father brought the family back to the U.S. so he could complete his master's degree in New Orleans; the family later relocated to Birmingham, Ala.
  • After high school, took courses at a community college in hopes of a earning a soccer scholarship and then playing professionally.
  • Discovered while working at a steakhouse; his personality impressed a Fred Astaire franchise developer, who invited him to apply to the training program.
  • Becamed the United States Rising Star Champion in 1999.
  • Is a four-time Fred Astaire National Champion.
  • Is a three-time United States Open American Rhythm finalist.
  • Reunited with partner Christina Penatello in 2006 and---after only five hours of practice over several months---became World Mambo Champions at the American Ballroom Company's U.S. Dance Sport Championships.
  • Owns the Fred Astaire Dance Studio in Hoover, Ala., with his wife.
