"Everybody Hurts" Craig and his lying old "I'm in a wheelchair" self showed up at Sam's grave on her birthday. Will shows up as well, and they are confronted by some kid who is glad that Sam's dead. After they awkwardly segue back to 1993, we find out that a pill-popping Sam had thought she caused his mother’s death. But we can all rest — she's a good doctor. You know how I pretty much go on and on about Sam and Will's chemistry? Well, I always feel justified every time I see scenes between Alexa Davalos and Will Estes. When Sam confessed her pill addiction to Will, it was like practice for w read more

Reunion

Question: Did you watch the premiere of Reunion? I thought it was great. It actually had me hooked before the second half. It is nice to see Will Estes come back after American Dreams was canceled (boohoo). Do you think it is a good enough show to stand up against a powerhouse like CSI? Answer: Probably not, but it's best for everyone, including the network, to keep expectations in check where Reunion is concerned. I like the time-jumping concept and the mystery angle quite a bit, and was reasonably entertained by the pilot (as I write this, I have yet to see the second episode), but the reaction I've gotten in my mailbag has been as mixed as many of the reviews I've read. (The show was one of our "favorites" in the Fall Preview issue, so we're on record with a thumbs-up.) CSI is going to crush it, but the question is by how much. If Reunion can hold on to enough of the audience of The O.C. (whose own ratings will no doubt slide given the increased Thursday competition), then Fox may ... read more

New O.C. Neighbor Has Killer Concept

Reunion

Those teen ne'er-do-wells on The O.C. have a new neighbor this season, and one that is different in so many ways. Fox's Reunion, premiering tonight at 9 pm/ET, spins a murder mystery involving six friends and told in flashbacks encompassing one year per episode, inching forward each week as it gradually revealing not just whodunit, but who was done in. The concept, while bold, begs big questions. Like, how do you do a murder mystery while keeping the victim's identity under wraps? (The deceased is referred to in present day as, well, "the deceased.") And what happens in Season 2, if there is one? Luckily, creator/executive producer Jon Harmon Feldman is armed with answers. Addressing the latter, most-asked question, he says, "If we're lucky and get to Season 2, the goal would be to use one of our [original six] characters to transition to a new group of friends and tel read more

Question: I am really excited about the new Fox show Reunion and am curious to see how the concept of each episode depicting a year in the life of the characters works out. Do you have any ideas how they will be able to do a second season if it becomes a hit? Will they have a whole new story line and cast? I hope not, especially since I love Sean Faris and Will Estes.
Answer: First things first. Reunion is airing Thursdays at 9 pm/ET against a few monster hits, and its likelihood of surviving the first season is problematic at best. That said, I liked the concept as well, and when Fox presents its new programming next week at the end of the critics' summer press tour, I imagine that very question will come up. At the moment, I'm not even all that sure how this freshman season will play out, let alone the sophomore one ... read more
