Twitchy Battlestar Galactica fans can rest a little easier.
The Sci Fi channel has given the green light to Caprica, the buzzed-about prequel to Battlestar, according to Variety. The cable channel has already produced a two-hour TV movie/backdoor pilot, which was set to debut in December, but will now launch the series in early 2010.

Set 50 years before the first Cylon War in Battlestar Galactica, the two-hour TV-movie/series pilot Caprica (airing this fall) is more soap opera than space opera."Caprica is a sweeping, highly emotional relationship drama — a Rich Man, Poor Man set in a science-fiction environment," says exec producer and writer Remi Aubuchon (24), who created the prequel with BSG's Ronald D. Moore. "The look is nostalgic, almost 1950s, with the men in hats, ties and stylish suits. On the heels of the news that Deadwood's Paula Malcolmson had landed the female lead in Sci Fi Channel's Battlestar Galactica prequel movie/backdoor pilot, Esai Morales has joined the Caprica cast in the role of Joseph, a "deeply passionate man with a strong sense of justice — and someone you wouldn't want as your enemy," says the Reporter. Oh, and Joe's last name is Adama, as in the father of one day Galactica commander William.Morales most recently had a run on Jericho (ah, Jericho…), but I'll always remember him from Bad Boys (the 1983 one).What's your take? No criminal charges will be filed against Esai Morales (Jericho, NYPD Blue), whose ex-girlfriend had claimed he raped her in April 2006, a spokesperson for the prosecutor announced on Friday. "I'm happy that my client was vindicated," the AP quotes Morales' attorney as saying. "He was never questioned by the police, never taken into custody, there were never any charges brought against him."The accuser has also filed a civil suit, charging that Morales raped her and in turn gave her herpes. Esai Morales' former girlfriend, Elizabeth Mazzocchi, is holding a press conference Friday morning to "inform the public of previously undisclosed information concerning [Morales'] alleged past acts of rape and sexual misconduct," so that "other potential victims of Mr. Morales will feel empowered to come forward".... TV producer David Russo has sued his former agent, Amy Shpall, claiming she stole his idea for a reality show set in a gym — aka Bravo's Work Out.
