Grey's Anatomy Preview: Eric Stoltz Discusses His Killer Role

Eric Stoltz in director mode, on the set of Grey's Anatomy.

When Grey's Anatomy resumes its season this Thursday at 9 pm/ET, Seattle Grace's finest will get a collective case of the heebie-jeebies when a death row inmate is admitted with critical injuries. Eric Stoltz (Pulp Fiction), who occasionally directs for ABC's hit medical drama, steps in front of the camera for the next three episodes to play the enigmatic serial killer. Stoltz gave us a look at the doctor-dividing dilemmas to come.

TVGuide.com: There's a bit of a disconnect between "Eric Stoltz" and "serial killer." One, are you glad there's that disconnect? And two, do you think it helps you bring something different to the role?
Eric Stoltz: [Laughs] Yes, I am happy that I really don't have much in common with killers. Absolutely. But, that being said, it's always bracing to explore what I might actually have in common with them underneath at all. Throughout the course of the day, I do have impulses to lash out at someone or to ram the car that took my parking space or yell at the cab that splashed water on me. But because I'm living in society and want to be a good person, I don't let those impulses out.

TVGuide.com: Is your character, William, remorseful at all?
Stoltz: You think he might have some remorse, but he could also be playing at having remorse, in order to get what he wants. Sociopaths tend to be ... read more

Exclusive: Battlestar Goes Back to the Beginning

Esai Morales and Eric Stoltz courtesy Sci Fi Channel

Set 50 years before the first Cylon War in Battlestar Galactica, the two-hour TV-movie/series pilot Caprica (airing this fall) is more soap opera than space opera."Caprica is a sweeping, highly emotional relationship drama — a Rich Man, Poor Man set in a science-fiction environment," says exec producer and writer Remi Aubuchon (24), who created the prequel with BSG's Ronald D. Moore. "The look is nostalgic, almost 1950s, with the men in hats, ties and stylish suits. It's not about hardware and space battles."Caprica stars Eric Stoltz as Daniel Graystone, a Bill Gates–like entrepreneur and inventor, and Esai Morales as immigrant lawyer Joseph Adama (the father of BSG's William), who hails from the other-side-of-the-tracks planet Tauron. "They're brought together by mutual grief when their daughters are killed in a terrorist bombing," Aubuchon says. But the bond turns sour when Graystone brings back their offspring as robots, creating the ancestors of the Cylons. Also on boa... read more

Exclusive: Eric Stoltz Previews a Killer Medium Visit

Revenge is human nature, even for psychics. Eric Stoltz will guest on Medium on Feb. 28, playing Sonny, an escaped serial killer bent on getting the person who helped put him in prison: Allison Dubois. Sonny's actions are even more menacing because he has the same psychic gifts as Allison. "He's able to dream lucidly and see things that are occurring," Stoltz tells TV Guide. "He's the dark side of the coin. Allison uses her abilities and talents for good purposes, and my character is much more interested in doing dastardly things." At press time, Stoltz was saying that, "We keep getting different endings!" so he can't say for certain if he'll be returning to the NBC drama. The episode is unique in that "the threat is more personal to Allison. Usually she's helping others, but here she has to help herself." — Reporting by N.F. Mendoza read more

Grey's Anatomy Oh no — it did...

Grey's Anatomy Oh no — it did not end that way! Are you not dying that Meredith and George got together?!? Absolutely the last thing I expected to happen. I thought for sure she was just going to hug him, say, "Thanks, George," and walk away, but then she took his shirt off! I'm sure the people in the next apartment heard me scream "Shut up!!" Then, after thinking about all that Meredith had just gone through, I got over my shock. But you know she's using him out of frustration, and our poor George is just going to get hurt. But hey, at least he'll get a chance to experience his obsession, especially since his "beast never sleeps." Oh, George. But let's talk about the rest of this awesome episode. So glad we finally got to meet Mark. Excellent castin read more

Without a Trace
Murky mysteries in the Bermuda Triangle

I've become spoiled by Sci Fi Channel's annual December miniseries — not to be confused with Sci Fi's proudly pulpy, drive-in style, Saturday-night cheesefests with titles like Locusts: The 8th Plague. (They stir fond childhood memories of Cincinnati's "Cool Ghoul" hosting Z-grade shockers every weekend.) Sci Fi's minis are a different matter, often among the best and most ambitious TV-movies of the year, including the epic Taken, the robust Farscape sequel The Peacekeeper Wars and the Battlestar Galactica remake, which launched that darkly fascinating series. So maybe my expectations were too high fo read more
