Intentionally isolated from her family since her mother died, Ana (Judy Marte) works as a waitress and tries to 'keep things simple,' to keep her life and herself under control. But a new relationship with the down-to-earth Ben begins to break down her self-imposed boundaries. In visiting her half-sister (played by Lauren Fales, on whose life the story is based), Ana recalls her former love of dance. Ben's work on an organic farm allows her a glimpse of a world outside her own. As Ana's heart begins to open once again, she's inspired to volunteer, to help others, even though she doesn't quite know how. A chance encounter with Maria (two-time Golden Globe winner and Academy Award nominee Karen Black) unlocks emotions neither is prepared to face.
