Olympics: Women's Figure Skating
Forget about the Shani-nigans of the speed-skating feud, Lindsey Jacobellis' fall from grace and Bode's disappointing body of work. Figure skating is the premiere event of the Winter Games, even without Jillian Barberie and Todd Bridges. And last night's free skate presented Sasha Cohen with the chance to become America's next golden girl.

The night's memorable moments:

Kiira Korpi, Finland: Why do I have a feeling we'll be seeing this girl in Maxim sometime soon? In the words of Dick Button, "My goodness!" Extra hot points for skating to "Fever."

Yelena Sokolova, Russia: Redeems herself from Tuesday's short program, when she had a Chernobyl-size meltdown. Why is it that all Russian skaters and gymnasts look like '80s New Jersey mall chicks?

Olympics: Women's Figure Skating...

Olympics: Women's Figure SkatingLike your average Winter Olympics fan, I was hoping the figure skating in Torino (Turin, to you Shroud fans) would feature the Wrath of Kwan, with Michelle finally capturing the elusive gold medal. That was not to be, so all the U.S. pressure falls on Sasha Cohen, who should definitely be played by Alexis Bledel in any potential future TV-movies (the Shaun "Flying Tomato" White gig will, naturally, go to Carrot Top.) Let's just hope the ladies' programs go smoother than the ice-dancing competition, which featured more crashes than your average drivers-education movie. Some of the night's highlights:Kimmie Meissner, U.S.: the second performance of the night sets the tone for the Americans as Meissner nails the combo of a triple lutz into a triple toe-loop. This, apparently, is very hard. Up unt read more

WHY, KWAN? D'OH!

I haven't seen this kind of drama at the Olympics since Tonya Harding. On Sunday, figure skater Michelle Kwan bowed out of the Torino games after straining a groin muscle during her first practice a day earlier. "I respect the Olympics too much to compete [if] I don't feel I can be at my best," she told the Associated Press. Knowing it had just lost its most recognizable star, NBC tried to keep the ice princess front and center by offering her a commentator gig; however, she declined. Emily Hughes has been tapped to replace Kwan on the U.S. team. read more
