Bones Launches a MySpaced-out Mystery

In a unique broadcast/online integration, Bones has posted 18 MySpace profiles representing characters that appear in the Fox series' May 9 episode (directed by Emily Deschanel's Oscar-nominated cinematographer pop, Caleb). The pages feature blogs referencing the upcoming story line — Homeland Security calls in Brennan and Booth to investigate potentially radioactive remains — and will offer clues as to the victim and murderer. The MySpace pages can be accessed via Fox.com/Bones. read more

No Bones About It: My Favorite Procedural

In this week's episode of Bones, we learn there's a community of "Brennanites," avid followers of Temperance "Bones" Brennan, that fictional triple-threat forensic anthropologist, crime-solver and best-selling mystery novelist. Add me to the fan base.As this second season has progressed, I've found myself getting more and more attached to this prickly "squint," her engagingly quirky lab mates and her FBI partner Seeley Booth. With clever writing, appealing casting and just enough of the "ick" factor — decomposed victims are the norm that helped put CSI on the map — Bones has slowly but surely become the most purely entertaining procedural crime drama on TV. (My top five, after Bones: TNT's The Closer, when it's on; the original and still champion of Thursdays CSI; and the twofer of Cold Case and Without a Trace, in part because the formula of these Sunday dramas invites a more emotional connection to the victims.)Having just watched this week and next week's Bones episod... read more

Hot Preview: Sully Has a Question to Ask Bones!

Eddie McClintock and Emily Deschanel, Bones

Dr. Temperance "Bones" Brennan can solve murders just by looking at victims' skeletons, but when it comes to affairs of the heart, she's clueless. "Brennan has been abandoned by her father and her brother — the closest men in her life — and she can't let go of that," says Emily Deschanel, the plucky actress who plays the title character on Fox's Bones (Wednesdays at 8 pm/ET). "She's pretty much fearless in the rest of her life, but fear governs her relationships." Fans of the show believe that her partner in crime-busting, FBI agent Seeley Booth (David Boreanaz), is her unacknowledged and unconsummated true love. But then along came Booth's old colleague, FBI agent Tim "Sully" Sullivan ( read more

Preview! Bones Is Finally Getting Lucky in Love

Eddie McClintock with Emily Deschanel, Bones

Things are looking up for Dr. Temperance Brennan. While her dating life is usually filled with jerks or murderers, she's actually about to meet a nice guy for a change. Eddie McClintock is joining Fox's Bones for a bit, starting tonight at 8 pm/ET, playing an FBI agent who manages to hold his own with the esteemed Dr. Brennan while Booth is sidelined. Coming between the partners, who have a simmering unspoken connection, wasn't easy, but McClintock was up for the task. TVGuide.com caught up with the actor (and new dad) to learn more about this juicy role. TVGuide.com: Brennan hasn't had the best luck with guys. There's a lot of pressure there.Eddie McClintock: I know. Plus there is all that fan stuff, where they want David [Boreanaz] and read more

Have you heard anything about ...

Question: Have you heard anything about Bones?

Answer: Big scoop straight from Emily Deschanel: Former Hugh Laurie sidekick Stephen Fry is doing a multi-episode arc as a shrink. "[Booth] goes a little nutso, does something bad and is given mandatory therapy," Emily told me Saturday night at Fox's press-tour party. As a result, Booth and Brennan "get separated, and that's when I have to work with" new recurring guest star/love interest Eddie McClintock. Booth eventually returns to the fold, but his jealousy over Brennan's new crush lands them both on Fry's couch. "We end up going to couples therapy with Stephen Fry because we're not working well together." Emily also confirmed that her pa, Oscar-nominated cinematographer Caleb Deschanel, will helm Bones' penultimate episode in May. "I won't have any kissing scenes in that episode. I requested that," she read more

Kathy Reichs Talks About Bones' Brennan Meeting Her Maker

Kathy Reichs with Bones' Emily Deschanel

How's this for meta? Kathy Reichs created the character of Temperance Brennan based on her own life as a forensic anthropologist who writes mystery novels based on her work experiences. Reichs' books have been turned into Fox's popular Bones, and now she is going to be appearing on an upcoming episode of the drama playing... a forensic anthropologist. Phew. With all of that cleared up, TVGuide.com chatted with the best-selling novelist about her upcoming guest stint and whether she has any "bones" to pick with TV procedurals.  TVGuide.com: You just filmed a guest appearance on Bones, set to air in December. Are you alive or dead on the show? Kathy Reichs: Oh, I'm alive. TVGuide.com: I hope they gave you some lines. Reichs: They did — I even got three! TVGuide.com: Were you nervous? read more

A Whodunit With a Funny Bone

Seeley Booth is a slut. There, I've said it. And so might you after this week's episode of Fox's Bones (Wednesdays at 8 pm/ET), one of the most enjoyable episodes yet this season on one of TV's more underrated procedurals. There is no justifiable reason why this show isn't doing better on Wednesdays, in one of the most undernourished time periods of the week. (The competition tonight includes three reality shows and CBS's plodding headscratcher Jericho, which follows last week's mega-hyped and well-sampled premiere with a ludicrous second episode in which Skeet Ulrich once again saves the day as ominous rain clouds threatening radioactive fallout loom on the horizon. Not exactly "there's no place like home" material.)Back to Bones, which most weeks manages the neat trick of delivering a grisly puzzle amid clever character intrigue laced with comedy involving FBI stud Seeley Booth (David Boreanaz) and the science-geek "squints" led by the formidable Bones (Emily Deschanel). This week,... read more

Bones' Booth Gets His Sexy On

David Boreanaz, Bones

Since the very first episode of Bones, audiences have been enthralled with Booth (David Boreanaz) and Brennan (Emily Deschanel) and their will-they-or-won't-they relationship. TVGuide.com got a chance to talk to Boreanaz about what's in store romantically for his character this year (the short answer: a lot!), and what he did on his summer vacation. TVGuide.com: How'd you spend your hiatus?David Boreanaz: It was kind of short, since we finished later than normal and started back on production in June. I went home to Philadelphia, then went to Mexico to kind of dissolve myself with read more

Bones: A Sneak Peek at Season 2

Bones' David Boreanaz and Emily Deschanel

When TVGuide.com caught up with David Boreanaz at last year's Comic-Con, he had just shot the pilot for the Fox series Bones and was scheduled to film the next batch of episodes as soon as he got back to L.A. At that point, no one had any idea how the show would fare in the ratings. What a difference a year makes. Returning to San Diego a few weeks ago, the former angsty vampire was all smiles, secure in the knowledge that his character, FBI agent Seeley Booth, would be solving forensic crimes opposite Dr. Temperance Brennan (Emily Deschanel) for another season. After appearing at a Bones panel disc read more

Love, love, loved the verbal ...

Question: Love, love, loved the verbal ass kicking Emily gave Logan's mom on last Tuesday's Gilmore Girls. It just proves once again the brilliance behind that show.

Answer: I knew you guys were going to eat that up. And not to take anything away from Kelly Bishop's sublime delivery, but major props must go out to Dan Palladino for scripting the classic smack-down. In case you missed any of it, I'm posting the entire monologue here. Feel free to commit it to memory and then recite it to the raging bitch in your life:

EMILY: Ah, yes. Well, let me tell you this, Shira — we are just as good as you. You don't think Rory is good enough for your son? As if we don't know Logan's reputation? We do. But he is welcome in our home anytime, and you should extend read more
