Doggie Adoption Takes DeGeneres to Ellen Back

Life's a bitch for Ellen DeGeneres. According to TMZ, when the talk show host and her girlfriend Portia de Rossi adopted a Brussels griffon mix named Iggy from Mutts and Moms, they thought everything would be hunky-dory. It wasn't — the pooch didn't mix with their cats. So they let DeGeneres' hairdresser have the mutt for her two kids. Again, they thought everything would be hunky-dory. It wasn't. M&Ms informed them that DeGeneres had violated the terms of their agreement by giving away the dog without informing them. Furthermore, a rep for the agency told the AP that DeGeneres was "trying to tell a story to make herself look good." He added, "She got rid of the dog not because it didn't get along with the cats. She didn't like the dog." Y'know, if it were a Britney or a Paris who was playing round robin with an animal, I'd say, "By all means, move in and take action — now!" But Ellen and Portia... uh, I think their judgment can probably be trusted. — Ben KatnerPO... read more

T.R. Knight Talks to Ellen About Dating Life

T.R. Knight opened up to Ellen DeGeneres about his love life and BFF Katherine Heigl during his appearance on her talk show today. The Grey’s Anatomy star turned to the daytime host last year after he felt forced to come out following a scuffle on the set involving a href="http://www.tvguide.com/celebrities/isaiah-washingtonIsaiah Washington. “I feel I’ve learned so much this past year, so yeah, that changes you,” Knight tells DeGeneres. “But as far as the dating, recently Kate and her fiancé Josh Kelly and me and her mom went out to dinner, and it was reported that it was with me and my new boyfriend. I guess I’m dating Katherine’s mom right now.” And what does he think of Hollywood actors who do not come out? “Everyone has their own path,” he said. “You just have to respect that… I don’t think it's right to force that. It’s impossible to know. There is a lot of soul-searching you have to do.”Although ... read more

You couldn't ask a Seacrest to pull that off.8:34: It's a montage of late-night one-liners.8:37: The guys from Entourage are presenting Best Supporting Actress, Drama, with Eva Longoria, which she jokes is appropriate because "no one's supported more actresses than these guys."8:39: "S--t!" Katherine Heigl mouths when she wins. "Thanks for getting my name right," she says once she gets on stage. Oh, her poor mom. They cut to her right after KH announces that she told her she didn't stand a chance of winning.8:40: Now Heigl is blathering on about her fellow nominees. Cue the music. Ah, there it is. The New View: No Big Whoop

Whoopi Goldberg and Barbara Walters by Steve Fenn/ABC

Whoopi Goldberg has always had a wonderfully distinct point of view, and one that’s probably just right for her new job on The View. But unlike her immediate predecessor in the cohost seat, this POV is not trained entirely on herself. For me, that’s a relief.Tuesday’s 11th-season opening of ABC’s daytime squawk show was a pretty low-key lovefest, as the gang embraced Whoopi while catching fans up on how they spent their summer vacation: Elisabeth Hasselbeck became more noticeably pregnant, Joy Behar nursed a virus and Barbara Walters made progress on her memoirs. Elizabeth and Joy displayed family photos. And Whoopi? Didn’t have much to reveal about herself (though she did sit for a pro forma taped biographical profile at the end). She’s just a hardworking gal these days, spending four hours on the radio each early a.m. before heading over to the Hot Topics table. Are these back-to-back morning gigs going to stretch her too thin? Whoopi seemed almost too... read more

Season 38 of Sesame Street, premiering Aug. 13, will feature a curriculum focusing on early literacy and language skills, PBS announced on Monday. The new batch will also feature Abby Cadabby in all 26 episodes (sounds like someone got a new agent), and kick off each episode with a "Word on the Street," which will be defined throughout the hour. There'll be occasional assists from the likes of Ellen DeGeneres and Jon Stewart.Speaking of famous human faces, guests for the coming season include Tina Fey, Rachael Ray, James Blunt and several New York Jets. Pop-culture spoofs include "Meal or No Meal," "American I," "A's Anatomy" and "GNN" with Anderson Cooper and grouch coanchors Walter Cranky and Dan Rather-Not. OK, that last bit just made me giggle. read more

Bob Barker: The Attitude Is Right

Bob Barker by Gregg DeGuire/WireImage.com

What becomes a living legend most? Modesty, grace and good humor. Such were the virtues on display throughout Bob Barker’s official last day (and night)on Friday as a revered, iconic game-show host.It started with his last-ever day hosting CBS’ The Price Is Right after 35 years, capping a 50-year career in broadcasting. (I remember growing up watching him on the slapstick game show Truth or Consequences before he landed the Price gig.) Despite the confetti, the standing ovations, and the prime-time replay just before the Daytime Emmys telecast (where he also cleaned up), it was mostly just another hour of Price Is Right merriment, albeit with the audience frenzy a bit more amped up given the nature of the day — and the fact that many audience members had camped out for days to be there (including the worshipful Patrick, who “came on down” as the show began but didn’t make it up on stage until the very last game).Bob Barker, ever the pro, wasted no time... read more

Plane Funny: Ellen Reschedules In-flight Show

Having now fully recovered from her recent back injury, Ellen DeGeneres has rescheduled for this Friday a special installment of her talk show to be taped aboard a Delta 767-400 flight from Los Angeles to New York. Lucky passengers — including, coincidentally, West Wing alum Allison Janney — will be entertained by the host, a definite upgrade from the usual flimsy airline headphones paired with an in-flight presentation of Catch and Release. Ellen's airborne eppy airs Tuesday. read more

Injury "Sweeps" Ellen Off Her Feet and On to Back

Ellen Degeneres by Mark Rozman/Warner Bros.

In what I can only imagine is some dangerous, misguided attempt to compete with the Rosie Quits/Hasselbeck Baby headline-making going on over at The View, fellow talker host Ellen DeGeneres injured her back — badly, it would seem — over the weekend, and as a result will conduct her Q&As this week lying down in a hospital bed posited center stage on The Ellen DeGeneres Show, TMZ.com reports. Among the guests being chatted up by the lying-down Ellen are Ryan Seacrest (on Tuesday) and Lindsay Lohan (on Wednesday). Ellen is expected to disclose on air exactly how this unfortunate, unfortunate sweeps twist came to be. read more

April 25, 2007: 70 Million Votes and Everyone's Safe!

This is going to be a different kind of blog tonight as I am frankly stunned, shocked and really pleasantly surprised that Idol pulled this little telethon together so quickly and so effectively. Idol is in a position to do something to help others less fortunate, and I am proud they took this opportunity to do it. They have friends in very high places, and scores of Idol-worshiping celebrities offered their services to help spread the message. Not only that, but they partnered with One.org to bring awareness to extreme poverty. And although the show felt pretty much like a long Ford commercial, I am happy and amazed that they did it. A little more than halfway through the show Ryan announced they had raised $30 million! That’s pretty impressive. So if you haven’t donated, do so now! There were some funny moments, but mostly these were two hours that really touched me. I started to lose it during the segment about New Orleans: After walking back and forth to the bathroom f... read more
