Jake Briggs (Kevin Bacon) has been in love with Kristy Bainbridge (Elizabeth McGovern) since he was a teenager. They marry right after college and embark on their new life together, with all of its ups and downs. Told largely through the eyes of narrator Jake, a would-be author who is prone to fits of fanciful, humorous hallucination--such as lawn-mowing neighbors breaking into song--this John Hughes film deals with the trials and tribulations of growing up and the responsibilities that come with marriage, adulthood, jobs, and children. Alec Baldwin appears as Davis McDonald, Jake's best friend, who is living life in the fast lane in New York, making Jake doubt his complacent, suburban lifestyle. Bacon and McGovern are believable as wide-eyed newlyweds dealing with the realities of "happily ever after," such as finding a job, paying the mortgage, and dealing with in-laws. watch

Artfully directed by Richard Benjamin, Racing with the Moon is a film so tender, so insightful, so full of heart that you'll never quite forget it. This is the story of Henry "Hopper" Nash (Sean Penn) and his buddy Nicky (Nicolas Cage) enjoying their last boyish exploits before they enter the Marines. Elizabeth McGovern portrays Penn's mysterious girlfriend. What ensues is a tender, bittersweet tale of lost innocence and the trauma of growing up too fast. The result is a magic moment, brilliantly captured within the emotional crosscurrent of America's most dramatic time. (English)

In the tradition of "The Godfather" comes Sergio Leone's compelling dramatic epic chronicling the lives of two boyhood cohorts and their struggle to achieve power in the gangland heirarchy. Academy Award- winner Robert De Niro ("GoodFellas," "A Bronx Tale") stars in this powerful tale of raw, brutal emotion. Co-starring Academy Award-nominee and Emmy-winner James Woods ("Nixon," "Ghosts of Mississippi"), Elizabeth McGovern ("She's Having a Baby"), Treat Williams ("Prince of the City") and Academy Award-winner Joe Pesci ("GoodFellas," "Lethal Weapon 2 & 3") co-star. Receiving two Golden Globe nominations, USA Today calls this "a visually stunning film" and The New York Times says it's a monument of filmmakers." Included on the 1984 Ten Best lists of both The Hollywood Reporter and Siskel & Ebert's "At the Movies," and available in its epic, uncut longer version.

An aspiring writer faces up to the responsibilities of marriage and family in this romantic comedy from writer, director, and producer John Hughes. Despite the misgivings he pours out to best friend Davis McDonald (Alec Baldwin), Jake Briggs (Kevin Bacon) marries high-school sweetheart Kristy (Elizabeth McGovern). After an abortive attempt at graduate school in New Mexico, the couple settle in suburban Chicago. Jake fakes his way into a job as an advertising copywriter, while Kristy settles into her own corporate job. The couple face the typical ups and downs of any new marriage, especially after Davis visits with a bimbo on his arm, regaling his pal Jake with tales of the good life. A few years later, Kristy decides to stop taking her birth-control pills and tells Jake about it three months later. Plagued by doubts, unfulfilled ambitions, and images of a fantasy girl (Isabel Lorca) he once spotted in a club, Jake resists the idea of fatherhood. Then he finds out he has low sperm cou

SVU Books More Special Guests

Although the fates of the other Law & Orders are still up in the air, SVU is apparently flush enough to blow its budget on a bevy of familiar faces for its May 22 season finale. In addition to the slew of previously announced guests — including Michael Weston as Olivia Benson's half brother, Ludacris as Fin Tutuola's stepson, and Court TV divas Nancy Grace and Star Jones Reynolds as themselves, unfortunately — Steven Weber (Wings), Lisa Gay Hamilton (The Practice) and Vincent Spano will appear as a lawyer, Luda's mother and an FBI agent, respectively. Also as previously reported, Adam Beach (aka Det. Chester Lake) will make his official debut as a series regular this episode. In fact, production (and thus guest-casting) on the next season of the popular procedural is already under way, with upcoming visitors including Sabrina the Teenage Witch herself, Melissa Joan Hart, and former film star Elizabeth McGovern. And should CI and/or the original flavor go off the air, e... read more

Moonstruck
Chicken Little would love life in Milford

This summer, ABC Family has been taking on a sci-fi glow with mixed results. I'm rather fond of the diverting Kyle XY, about the savant-like John Doe teen whose missing belly button is just one of his mysteries. More recently, the bizarre TV-movie Fallen (with sequels to follow) featured a teenage boy who's part angel. Last and definitely least, there's the aggressively quirky fantasy-dramedy series Three Moons Over Milford (Sundays at 8 pm/ET), showing how life is turned upside down in a bucolic Vermont town following a cosmic disaster: The moon has broken into three parts, all suspended over Earth. While the townspeople wait for the sky to fall and the world to end, they act out in crazy ways that read more
