Question: Thanks to the writers' strike, I caught an episode of CSI: Miami for the first time Monday night. Can I just say how god-awful this show is? There were moments when I felt like I was watching Skin-a-Max. Elizabeth Berkley always looked on the verge of stripping and getting it on with David Caruso, while long, sheer curtains billowed in the background. Plus, all that crazy cinematography! Was the whole thing shot through an amber fractal lens? I guess it was there to distract us from the cheesy dialogue and wooden acting. How has that show lasted this long? I guess it's a matter of taste, and this surely isn't mine. Thanks for letting me vent — I really needed to purge myself!

Jeers to CSI: Miami for ludicrously miscasting Elizabeth Berkley as the mother of Horatio Caine's creepy teenage doppelgänger. Just when she'd finally put the twin ignominies of Saved by the Bell and Showgirls behind her, the glassy-eyed actress delivered a performance so stiff and artificial, she made David Caruso (who's rapidly turning into the new Hasselhoff) seem like Daniel Day-Lewis. Speaking of surrealism, what was with the visual gimmick that made the entire episode look like it was shot inside a beehive? This show gets weirder every week. Showgirls alum/upcoming CSI: Miami player Elizabeth Berkley has been tapped to host Step It Up and Dance, Bravo's new reality competition that sounds near-identical to So You Think You Can Dance (and has nearly as unwieldy a title), says the Reporter.... ABC Family is casting and has a spring premiere eyed for America's Prom Queen, in which several high-school girls move into a mansion and get tested on their "prom-queen mettle."
