Top Chef heads to Texas for Season 9
The Emmy-winning series hits the Lone Star State for Season 9 — bigger than ever before with an unprecedented 29 cheftestants. That's not the only difference this season though. Here are five things to know before you saddle up for the premiere (Wednesday, 10/9c, Bravo):
Pia Toscano, Ryan Seacrest
Our top moments of the week:
14. Best Discovery: When Mrs. McCluskey finds an unconscious Andrew on her couch on Desperate Housewives, instead of acting concerned, she acts like, well, Mrs. McCluskey. She calls Bree and gives her a hint of the problem — "It reeks of Mai Tais, and you gave birth to it." "If I wanted a drunk homo on my couch," she continues, "I would have married my college boyfriend." Apparently, warmth and sensitivity are so 2009 on Wisteria Lane.
13. Butt Out Award: Rejected from her and her mother's dream school — Berkeley — Amber completely unravels after a classmate asks her about her college plans at...
Tom Colicchio, Elia Aboumrad
In case you missed it, Elia is so not over having been eliminated first on Top Chef All-Stars.
After getting the boot in the season premiere, she mouthed off to the press about how she had been unfairly judged and specifically went after head judge Tom, accusing him of not serving grass-fed beef in his restaurants and endorsing Diet Coke. "He has become someone who is not all about the food anymore," she told the Chicago Tribune in December. "He's not all about supporting farmers markets. He's all about high-fructose corn syrup and there is only corn-fed beef on all of his menus now."
Top Chef's Mike: I thought I won
At the end of Wednesday's reunion special, host Andy Cohen asked her to explain her comments.
Michael C. Hall and Charlie Hunnam
Here are our top TV moments of the week:
12. Saddest Laugh: He's held his own against the likes of the Salahis, George W. Bush and even Kanye West, but apparently Today host Matt Lauer is no match for... small packages? During a segment examining the shrinking sizes of food packaging, Lauer shows the show's financial editor he's just a kid inside — a 5-year-old — when he starts uncontrollably giggling over "small packages." We haven't seen anyone break ...
Talk about evil: On Wednesday's premiere of Top Chef: All-Stars, the cheftestants were asked to redo the dish that got them eliminated the first time around. And in the eyes of the judges, some chefs were unable to learn from their previous mistakes.
But according to Season 2's Elia Aboumrad, the first chef asked to pack her knives this season, it wasn't exactly an even playing field. Find out why the Los Angeles-based chef thinks the challenge was unfair and why she and the judges shared and intense back-and-forth we didn't see. Plus: Did she think Fabio's dish was as bad as Anthony Bourdain made it out to be? ...
