We Made It Through This Day

Mer and Cristina have a close knit circle...Ellen Pompeo, Sandra Oh by Ron Tom/ABC

Episode Recap Haunt You EverydayWhy should Izzie direct all of her questions to Bailey now Because shes been sleeping with my husband Callie announced in that oh-so-matter-of-fact tone that bubbled up unexpectedly And just like that this episode was off and runningSo tonight was Halloween and as we all know freaky things tend to happen on this holiday and weird happenings were not in short supply at Seattle Grace First there was the guy who sliced off his finger with a chainsaw accidentally and then there was the guy who tried to slice off his foot on purpose I truly thought the latter was just an elaborate trick to scare Bailey but obviously it wasnt Then of course there was Meredith being haunted by the ashes of her mother Fortunately Mer finally found a way to peacefully part with her mothers remains by returning them to the OR via the OR sinkAs far as tricks go though I think my favorite was the one Derek played on Mark read more

Forgive and Forget

There's no place like home. Camille Winbush by Ron Tom/ABC

Episode Recap The Heart of the MatterI forgive you Did I hear that right Callie calmly telling George that he made a mistake by sleeping with Izzie but that she was willing to forgive him because of their wedding vows Thank god she changed her mind by the end of the episode because Im not sure I could have forgiven Callie for letting Gizzie off the hook so easily Not after everything weve been through in this whole messy love triangle Though something tells me we wont have anything resembling closure here for quite some timeAnd while I secretly knew that Callie wasnt really planning on a lunchtime brawl it was fun watching Izzie prepare for the possibility of one I think it was the trash-talking that I enjoyed the most especially when Izzie quipped Im just saying I learned to fight in a trailer park Whered Callie learn to fight Boarding school Oh Izzie I may not like the idea of you and George being together but I do admire your passion to fight for read more

You're not the chief of me, mister! James Pickens, Jr., Loretta Devine by Ron Tom/ABC

Well, George dumped half of his big secret on Callie last week. Let's see if the other shoe drops now — and if so, what the reaction might be around Seattle Grace. Another relationship plotline will involve the chief, who has been pining for his ex, Adele (Loretta Devine), for weeks now. They'll meet this week, but under circumstances neither wants. Then there's intern Norman Shales (Edward Herrmann), the wise-looking former pharmacist who demonstrated last week that he's not as sage as he may seem. (Don't expect him to get any better tonight.) — Paul DroeschBonus! "Let the Truth Sting"

Did someone mention pancakes? Martin Spanjers, Eve Gordon by Scott Garfield

When the episode opened with Alex and Lexie checking each other out in the elevator I thought we were going to see the two of them getting cozy tonight That was so not the case Instead Alex got tied down with the old intern Dr Norman Shales Edward Herrmann who meant well but managed to get in the way more than he helped Sticking with the old dog new tricks theme Dr Sloan and Dr Webber decided to take their chances with a radical procedure in order to prove that they still had that magic touch Their goal was to treat a womans cancer while preserving her ability to speak Fortunately for the patient Dereks last-minute expertise helped to make the surgery a success The only down-side she faced was dealing with the backlash of the brutally honest confessions she made to her friends shortly before the procedure took place Yes I was pretty sure her friends had left the building for good after having been told that they either wore their pants too tight or ha read more

Hmm: Which Grey sister is missing the play-nice gene? Ellen Pompeo, Chyler Leigh by Scott Garfield

Admittedly, having a baby snatched from the hospital by a drug-dealer father is a no-no, and it did happen on Callie's watch. But still, the chief was way too harsh with her last week, didn't you think? And now, the poor gal is expecting George to dump her. Speaking of harsh treatment, Meredith has been downright rude to Lexie, and while this might change, the mentoring she'll give her sweet half-sister tonight will be grudging. Meanwhile, Edward Herrmann, who played a doctor on TV in a 1980 episode of M*A*S*H, begins a tour of duty at Seattle Grace — as an intern. — Paul Droesch read more

Johnny Depp in Dark Shadows and Other Casting News

Johnny Depp by Steve Granitz/WireImage.com

And here I thought I was the only one left who was obsessed with Dark Shadows. But no, apparently Johnny Depp is, too. According to Variety, the erstwhile Cap'n Jack grew up wishing he was the '60s soap's anti-hero, vampire Barnabas Collins — and still does. So now that he's a big movie star and not a starry-eyed kid, he's making it happen, developing a big-screen version of the daytime drama. Oh, please, please, please, can we get Angelina Jolie to play Angelique the Witch?! Those lips, those eyes! She's perfect! Elsewhere... Susan Sarandon has been cast as the slain heroine's grandmother in The Lovely Bones, based on Alice Sebold's best-seller. Stanley Tucci is considering playing her killer. Dude, Susan Sarandon's in the movie.... What's to think about? Meanwhile, Vince Vaughn and Reese Witherspoon are teaming up to coproduce and star in New Line's Four Christmases, about a couple who visit their four divorced parents all on the same holiday. In small-screen casting news, G... read more

Sweeps Watch: Gilmore Review, Bones Preview

A warm thought for the deep chill of winter: Even in the doldrums of a miserable season, Gilmore Girls proves that it’s still capable of greatness. This week’s episode returned to its core, the electrifying dynamic among three generations of Gilmore women, balancing humor with searing flashes of drama in an episode incomparably illuminated by the welcome return of Kelly Bishop’s imperious, hilarious, monstrous yet ultimately oh-so-human Emily Gilmore. It seems like ages since we’ve seen Bishop at her best. And no mistake about it, she was at her best this week, rising to the occasion when Emily’s husband, Richard (the estimable Edward Herrmann), is felled with a heart attack. Bossing around the hospital staff, railing against the incompetence of any poor health-club or service worker who has the bad luck to come up against her, she is a riot. And as Lorelai and Rory sit in amused horror, we know deep down all will be well because they’re all together aga... read more

February 6, 2007: Heart and Soul

While I am so, so tempted to write all about how Chris completely bailed on Lorelai during her awful time of need (was that four or five messages left on his cell about Lorelai’s dad having a heart attack?), instead I will write about Rory. Yes, Rory, the fair-skinned, doe-eyed, too often incomprehensible but still incredibly bright daughter of the esteemed Lorelai Gilmore. (There I go mentioning Lorelai again! Gotcha!). Now that you’ve picked yourself up from the floor, 'cause you know, I actually mentioned the "R" word, let’s move on. Can you believe how Rory’s relationship with Logan completely turned around? One minute she’s jealous over Bobbi, two minutes later he’s jealous over Marty, and now Rich Boy actually flew in on a freaking helicopter from Montauk, Long Island, straight to the hospital in New Haven! (Hey, if you had a hedge-fund partner-dude who’s willing to lend you his chopper, you'd swoop in Jack Bauer-style, too. I'm just surpris... read more

October 24, 2006: Sometimes a Pickle Is Just a Pickle

Remember how last week I’d said that Chris knows how to give good romance? Well, apparently so does Logan. Sweet: calling Rory from London and insisting she run to the rooftop to watch a meteor shower together. (One question: England is five hours ahead. Would they really be able to see it at the same time?) Even sweeter: finding Logan there, along with a candlelit dinner and trees decorated with white lights. No real meteor shower, but sparks do fly between the two. Now, I’ve always admitted that I am not a Logan fan. But I am impressed by his efforts. So imagine how annoyed I am when Rory turns out to be the big baby. Who cares if one of Logan’s business partners is a hot blonde who uses her long, sexy legs to close deals. (Freud would have a field day with that one. And maybe with the pickles in Stars Hollow, too. What was the point of that?) Well, OK, I can see why Rory would be threatened, considering Logan never mentioned that Bobby was a woman. (Not like Bobby ... read more

October 17, 2006: Mustang Love?

Even if you loathe Chris, if you think he’s a former dead-beat dad for neglecting Rory all those years, and a total snake for sleeping with a heartbroken Lorelai, you gotta admit the guy gives great romance. Driving Lorelai in a cherry-red classic Mustang convertible to a deserted barn where he played Funny Face from an old-school film projector. Did you catch the big moment, when Lorelai tried not to cry just as Chris pulled a bag of popcorn out of the glove compartment? He couldn’t have picked a better musical; one of her favorite movies with great lyrics. “’S wonderful/’S marvelous/That you should care for me.” Notice the usage of the word care, not love. Chris is finally smart enough not to push this relationship too hard. And when Lorelai says she doesn’t trust him, or herself, he doesn’t argue. He lets it be. Wise move. Almost zen, actually. And it works. She invites him upstairs after the date. Meanwhile, back in what is best described... read more
