The Psych musical is finally (almost) here.
USA announced Thursday that the long-awaited two-hour special, featuring all new original songs by series creator Steve Franks, will premiere on Sunday, Dec. 15. Featuring guest appearances by musical vets Anthony Rapp (Rent) and Barry Bostwick (The Rocky Horror Picture Show), Psych: The Musical will find Shawn (James Roday) and Gus (Dulé Hill) singing and dancing their way through a murder mystery centered on a Z (Rapp), a playwright who is deemed criminally insane after killing a critic six years ago. When Z escapes, the team must track him down and turn to the one person he confided in — a familiar villain from Shawn's past.
Indiana Jones. Twin Peaks. The Bachelor. Over its eight seasons and 99 episodes, Psych has paid tribute to many pop culture touchstones. But the USA detective comedy's 100th episode, airing Wednesday at 10/9c, will pay homage to one of the biggest cult classic films of all time — 1985's Clue — when Shawn (James Roday) and Gus (Dulé Hill) are invited to a mysterious party at a mansion by a rock legend. The episode will not only feature original stars Christopher Lloyd, Lesley Ann Warren and Martin Mull, but also has three different endings, which viewers will be able to vote for online during the episode.
