It is the fall of 1957. The Whitakers, the very picture of a suburban family, make their home in Hartford, Connecticut. Their daily existences are characterized by carefully observed family etiquette, social events, and an overall desire to keep up with the Joneses. Cathy Whitaker (Julianne Moore) is the homemaker, wife and mother. Frank Whitaker (Dennis Quaid) is the breadwinner, husband and father. They have two pre-teen children, a boy and a girl. As the story unfolds before us, Cathy's pristine world is transformed. Her interactions with her gardener, Raymond Deagan (Dennis Haysbert); her best friend, Eleanor Fine (Patricia Clarkson); and her maid, Sybil (Viola Davis), reflect the upheavals in her life. Cathy is faced with choices that spur gossip within the community and change several lives forever.
Leo Waters (LaPaglia) is an idealistic architect and patriarch of an upper middle class suburban Chicago family. Tonya Neeley (Davis) is a pragmatic activist who is trying to keep her family together while living in one of the city's most drug and crime-infested public housing projects. As part of her ongoing campaign to have the projects torn down and decent housing built in its place, Tonya decides that the one signature she needs on her petition is that of the projects' original architect, Leo Waters. Rossellini, Panettiere and Stan turn in powerful supporting performances as Waters' wife and children.
Academy Award winner Kevin Kline stars as Arthur Hundert, an inspiring professor who has devoted his life to teaching at an elite boy's prep school.
In her quest to get the city to tear down the crime-infested housing project she calls home, Tonya enlists the aid of the building's architect.
An architect engages in conflict with an activist who lives in a dangerous complex the architect designed.
THE ARCHITECT, is a harrowing and ultimately human story of two very different families. Leo Waters is an idealistic architect and patriarch of an affluent, suburban Chicago family. Tonya Neeley is a pragmatic activist who is trying to keep her family together while living in one of the city's most drug and crime-infested public housing projects. As part of her ongoing campaign to have the projects torn down and decent housing built in its place, Tonya decides that the one signature she needs more than any other on her petition is that of the projects' original architect, Leo Waters.
Julianne Moore (Hannibal, Boogie Nights) and Dennis Quaid (The Rookie, Frequency) star in this seductive story of a seemingly perfect family, and the forbidden desires that threaten to tear them apart. Cathy Whitaker (Moore) has it all - a lovely home, two wonderful children and a handsome husband (Quaid), who is successfully climbing the corporate ladder. But Cathy's idyllic existence is just an illusion, and she is eventually forced to choose between living a lie or following her heart. Academy Award® nominee Moore "is a vision," declared Rex Reed, and he called Quaid's performance "the best of his career," in this stunning drama hailed by the New York Post as "one of the year's best."

Young man is murdered while stealing key file in dysfunctional family's lawsuit.--A crucial file in an ugly $20-million lawsuit may be the catalyst behind the murder of a daring young man who was killed while trying to steal evidence for a "wrongful life" court case -- all of which has Detectives Goren (Vincent D'Onofrio) and Eames (Kathryn Erbe) sorting through a dysfunctional family looking for likely suspects who might want the documents. While the son is a prime suspect, the key clues could lie with his bitter mother Victoria (guest star Talia Balsam) who is suing a doctor for not revealing years earlier that her unborn daughter had a debilitating orthopedic problem -- a fact which could have prompted her to abort the baby. Jamey Sheridan and Courtney B. Vance also star.
