Coming Attractions: Drew Barrymore Goes Crazy

Drew Barrymore and Jessica Lange are teaming up for HBO Films' adaptation of Grey Gardens, based on the 1975 documentary about Jackie O's kooky cousin and aunt that's already spawned a Broadway musical. No word yet on whether the pic will debut in theaters or on HBO. In somewhat less prestigious movie news, Steven Seagal has written himself a new starring vehicle, A Higher Form of Learning, which is going straight to DVD. Apparently the last person in the world (well, besides you and me) who remembers the golden age of MTV (you know, back when the M stood for music, not mind-numbing), she is exec-producing a new VH1 series called Clash of the Music Videos. In each episode, two contestants will be given a shoestring budget to remake a classic '80s music video, with the victor being chosen by the stars of the original. Top that, Ashton Kutcher! Elsewhere on the cabler, allegedly legendary lothario Mystery will transform eight benchwarmers into playahs in the new how-to dating show The Pick-up Artist, bowing Aug. 6. read more

Also on board are Andy Garcia (as a German shepherd), George Lopez (as a macho pooch with eyes for Chloe) and Salma Hayek.... The red-hot Frank Langella will star with Elliott Gould in On the Hook, a thriller about a corporate whistleblower and the PI who protects him from killers.... Dane Cook is in final talks to play Steve Carell's brother in Dan in Real Life, about a widower who unwittingly falls for his brother's girlfriend.... In book deals, Paramount has bought The Spellman Files, about a family of private investigators, while Warner Bros. has snatched up David Ignatius' espionage thriller Penetration, which Ridley Scott will direct. read more
