American Idol's Blake Lewis Dishes on New Album

Just one week before the American Idols Live tour kicks off in Sunrise, Florida, Blake Lewis is already hard at work laying down tracks for his upcoming album. “I just recorded my first track last night,” the Idol runner-up told TV Guide in an exclusive interview. “I’ve already written seven songs.”Lewis, who is in the midst of rehearsals for American Idols Live, began recording in Los Angeles on June 18. Electronic musician BT has signed on to produce and rapper Doug E. Fresh, who performed with Lewis on the Season 6 finale, is in talks to beatbox on a song. “There’s a couple of emcees I’d like to work with,” he says. “I’m going to have four or five people beatbox between tracks.”Asked to describe the disc’s sound, Lewis says, “I’d classify it as electro-funk-soul-pop if you need to label it. Everyone was in the house for the grand finale of American Idol, as Jordin and Blake opened the show with a long-awaited Beatles tune. "I Saw Her Standing There" was a premonition of things to come. We drifted quickly into a performance by the touring Gwen Stefani singing her song “4 in the Morning.” She looked and sounded fantastic. Red-carpet tidbits — there were lots of Idols both past and present. However, the real stars were ushered past me on the red-carpet press line at the speed of light, as though I had a form of jumping leprosy. In the end, the only person who didn't know that Jordin Sparks was going to be crowned the newest American Idol was... Jordin Sparks. After host Ryan Seacrest (finally!) got around to announcing Sparks as the winner, the 17-year-old high-school junior from Arizona said that she had no idea she was the odds-on favorite to join Kelly, Reuben, Fantasia, Carrie and Taylor as America's favorite singer. "I've been in a bubble," Sparks told TVGuide.com after being crowned the youngest Idol to date. "When I went home [after making the finals] there was so much support, but that was from my home state.
