GRACE: Hey, Doc! Can we go polyatomic ion memorizing?
(BRIAN): What, what, what, what...
GRACE: Bada, badada, badada, bada...
ALL: I'm gonna do some chem
Only got 25 simple ions
I'm concentrating, almost memorizing
This is kind of hopeless
BRIAN: Now I walk into the lab like, "What up? I got a big coat!"
I'm so pumped 'bout memorizing all these ions
GRACE: First mercury 2, plus 2
Which is easy to get, you get it: 2, 2, 2
KATHERINE: NH4 plus 1, 'cause there's one N in it
And it's chilling with the Lewis dots, count 'em in the octet
BRIAN: Acetate. That's what you're kicking when you're done
With a C2H3O2 negative
GRACE: Onnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnne
But yeah, we got it down
Now, cyanide is CN minus one 'cause there's one of each
Carbonate, flyin' like a seashell on the beach
KATHERINE: CO3 minus 2, like 3 minus 1 is 2
H CO3 minus, obvious, with the H plus
BRIAN: Now you see the oxalate, down with the oxalate
No, for real, C2O4 minus 2 is oxalate
GRACE: Now get ready for the run of 4
Each as different as the 4 of us
KATHERINE: You see the hypochlorite, add an O it's a chlorite
Add an O, make it chlorate, and to 4 it's perchlorate
BRIAN: Hello, yo, mah Grace Chow, my Lego
'Cause a Doc ain't got nothing on these ions, heck no
GRACE: They be easy as 3 pies to memorize, yeah I said so
And all the little kids be like, "Aw, they cool like Star Trek, yo"
ALL: I'm gonna do some chem
Only got 25 simple ions
I'm concentrating, almost memorizing
This ain't quite as hopeless
ALL: I'm gonna do some chem
Only got 25 simple ions
I'm concentrating, almost memorizing
This is getting better
KATHERINE: What you know about chromate and dichromate?
Both minus 2 but one is on a double date
BRIAN:CrO4, but at least it's alive
Cr2O7 never gonna survive
GRACE: Think MnO4 minus one for permanganate
Nitrite, double I, N double O minus
KATHERINE: Nitrate, NO3 minus, 'cause you ate 3
Peroxide, double O minus 2
BRIAN: Hydroxide, Oh!, OH minus one
And the phosphate, son, with the PO4 minus 3
GRACE: The 4 minus 1 is the 3 in the charge see
Thiocyanate, cyanide with the "S"sssssssssssss
KATHERINE: We be like, sulfite, sulfate, hello yessssssssssss
I'm like, both S, minus 2, 3 O then 4
BRIAN: Add an H plus, minus 1, H sulfate
And it's easier to name, just hydrogen sulfate
GRACE: I call that bringing it up to thiosulfate
S2O3 minus 2, update
KATHERINE: Last is the fast one
H3O plus one
BRIAN: Is the same as water plus an H plus one
(Fire.....explosions.....yeah...)
ALL: I'm gonna do some chem
Only got 25 simple ions
I'm concentrating, almost memorizing
This is getting easy
KATHERINE: I wear Doc Watson's vest
I'm gonna ace my test
This be an easy feat
In the chem lab I will be
BRIAN, KATHERINE: I wear Doc Watson's vest (GRACE: like a doctah)
I'm gonna ace my test (GRACE: is that like a 65)
This be an easy feat (GRACE: kickin' acetate)
In the chem lab I will be (GRACE: let's go)
ALL: I'm gonna do some chem
Only got 25 simple ions
I'm concentrating, almost memorizing
This is kind of awesome
GRACE (VOICE): Bye, Brian, I hope you find your ions!
BRIAN: Thanks, Doctor Watson!
DOC: What? I didn't say anything. (looks down) Wait, did you steal my sweater vests?
