NBC Retains Rights to Olympics

NBC has retained the rights to the Olympics through 2020 in a new deal that covers four more games.

Comcast, NBC's new parent company, agreed Tuesday to acquire the rights to the 2014 Winter Games in Sochi, Russia, the 2016 Summer Games in Rio de Janeiro, and the next two Olympics, whose host cities have not yet been chosen. The deal is worth $4.38 billion.

NBC Universial CEO Steve Burke said he was "extremely pleased" to continue to carry the games.

Dick Ebersol Leaving as Head of NBC Sports

Dick Ebersol is leaving NBC, The New York Times reports.

Ebersol, who has run NBC Sports since 1989, resigned after he and the network couldn't agree on a new contract, the Times said, adding that his departure provoked speculation that he didn't get along with his new bosses at Comcast.

Former International Olympic Committee President Juan Antonio Samaranch Dies at 89

Juan Antonio Samaranch, the former president of the International Olympic Committee, died Wednesday from cardiac arrest. He was 89.

Samaranch spent his final moments at home watching tennis before being taken to the hospital in Barcelona, his son, Juan Antonio Samaranch Jr., told The Associated Press.

"He watched [Rafael] Nadal's match — he loved tennis — and after the game he wasn't feeling great, so we decided to come [to the hospital] around six or seven at night," he said. "Then he collapsed. They stabilized him but he never came out. And that was the last time he was conscious."
