HBO Continues In Treatment

HBO has confirmed the renewal of their hit freshman show In Treatment starring Gabriel Byrne and Dianne Wiest. Byrne, who played psychiatrist Dr. Paul Weston, will return as well as Wiest who plays his therapist, Dr. Gina Toll. The other "patients," who were each featured once a weekday, have yet to be confirmed. Joining the shows producing team of Rodrigo Garcia, Hagai Levi, Stephen Levinson and Mark Wahlberg will be Warren Leight (Law & Order: Criminal Intent), who will serve as executive producer. The show, which totally had me at "treatment," will be shot in New York this fall — a debut date is scheduled for sometime in 2009. In the meantime, I'm making it my personal mission to campaign for Mia Wasikowska to win a Best Supporting Actress Emmy. She was such an amazing find for this show, and will no doubt go on to mega-stardom. Are you excited for another round of therapy with Paul and Co.? Katie Holmes: Broadway Star?

Think what you will about Katie Holmes' personal life, but the young mom is making a big professional move with a Broadway debut this fall. The actress — who, for the sake of contrast, found stardom on Dawson's Creek — will be moving on to meatier material (or drier, depending on your Dawson fandom) with Arthur Miller's All My Sons. The play depicts the tragedy of a man who knowingly sold defective plane parts to the government during World War II, and has to face the truth when his son wants to propose to his business partner's daughter. Holmes will be starring alongside the likes of John Lithgow, Patrick Wilson and Dianne Wiest.Details of the play's opening date and theater have not yet been announced but when they are...we just might be lining up. Will you? — Anna DimondEnjoy more of Katie Holmes' TV and movie appearances with our Online Video Guide. read more

HBO’s In Treatment

How’s this for an interesting show concept? A series that airs five days a week, 30 minutes a pop, for nine weeks straight in “real time”. Definitely different. But whatever you do, don’t be expecting your typical therapy show with this one. HBO’s In Treatment focuses on one shrink (Gabriel Byrne), his four patients (who each have a different time slot Mondays through Thursdays) and his own therapy session (with Dianne Wiest) on Fridays. Turns out this uniquely formatted series is an adaptation of a mega-hit in Israel. Hey, Idol was a “borrowed” idea, too, and look how insane people are over that one!Watch it now! | More online videosYour take: What do you think of the 30 minutes, five days a week, for nine weeks format? Overkill, or kind of cool? read more

Exclusive: AS-P Casts a VIP on Jezebel James

The cast of Amy Sherman-Palladino's new series just keeps getting better: The Ausiello Report has learned exclusively that The Return of Jezebel James has landed two-time Oscar winner Dianne Wiest to play Parker Posey and Lauren Ambrose's mom in several episodes. Don't speak! There's no need. Mom, whose name is Talia, is described as sweet but not in a the-mom-from-Edward Scissorhands kind of way — there's a little aggression mixed with her passivity. So you can imagine how she'll react when finally her daughters join forces to give her the grandbaby she and her husband (played by Ron McLarty, who appears in the pilot) so desperately want. Nice "get," huh? Aside from that unfortunate stint on Law & Order, Wiest has always been a scene-stealer, and the idea of her going two-on-one with Posey (aka the next best thing to Lauren Graham) and Ambrose (the Six Feet Under live wire) is almost too good to be true. No, don't speak! I imagine you're speechless, anyway. On second thoug... read more

Melissa George's Treatment

Melissa George, formerly of Alias, swears she doesn't watch TV, but now that she's starring in a new HBO series, In Treatment with Gabriel Byrne and Dianne Wiest, she'll have to at least TiVo her own show. The new drama is based on the Israeli series Therapy and George tells TV Guide, "I play a patient and Gabriel Byrnes is my therapist. The whole show is in one room. It's just a monologue of me, very troubled, but very humorous, lots of love, lots of drama. On HBO you have the freedom to say whatever you want. HBO's genius. I'm very happy to be working for them. You can take risks and for an actress it's a pretty good gig.” Also starring are Josh Charles, Blair Underwood, and Embeth Davidtz. An air date has not been announced but HBO has picked up 40 episodes. —reporting by Paula Paige read more
