Bookish Tom Hartley (Kirk Alyn) inherits a stagecoach line, making him a target of Mrs. Patterson (Alice Fleming) and her trigger-happy family. Enter "Wild" Bill Elliott, who assumes Tom's identity to take on the would-be marauders. When the Pattersons turn the tables, Bill/Tom finds himself framed for murder, and it's up to his sidekick, Gabby (George "Gabby" Hayes), and his best girl, Judy (Anne Jeffreys), to come to his aid.
