The Wednesday Playlist: Attenborough's Natural Life History, Horror Finale

Sarah Paulson

The world is Sir David Attenborough's playground, which he has revealed on camera in all of its natural wonder with irrepressible enthusiasm for the last 60 years, forging a career that encompasses what he calls "the golden age of natural history filmmaking." His breakthrough TV programs include 1979's epic Life on Earth, which launched a series of "Life" specials, and such recent phenoms as Planet Earth and Frozen Planet (although Discovery Channel replaced his narration with American actors for U.S. broadcast).

PBS' Nature celebrates his astonishing milestones over the next three Wednesdays with a miniseries, Attenborough's Life Stories (check tvguide.com listings), which functions as a visual history of how this sort of nature programming has evolved with the help of technological breakthroughs. read more

In case you haven't seen the incessant promos during the MLB playoffs and Conan, GD is a new sitcom about a group of freshmen rushing a fraternity at an Indiana university in 1986. (Unfortunately, there's nothing rushed about the show — it's an hourlooong show, a fact the ads fail to mention.) No collegiate-comedy cliché goes unturned, from the shtick-figure characters — the virgin, the jock, the stoner — to the predictable debauchery, with gag topics running the gamut from bongs to beer bongs... read more

The Office: The Pressure’s (Not) On for Steve Carell’s Last Year

The Office

In less than a year, Steve Carell will tape his last episode as the incorrigible and unflappable Michael Scott, leaving Dundler Mifflin without the world's worst boss and The Office minus its leading man.

But you wouldn't know that from talking to executive producer and co-star Paul Lieberstein.

"Oddly enough, it's been... read more

Dancing with the Stars I think...

Dancing with the StarsI think I was the only person in the office who didn't watch this over the summer, and I regretted it for months, so I had high expectations here tonight. The only problem is, it seems like the show's producers have decided that everyone else watching was a fan of the first season, so we got very little explanation of how the celebrities and partners were matched up, how long they had to learn their dances, what dances to expect in the coming weeks, etc. How about a little bit of love for the new people here? Master P says he got all the people in the 'hood to watch! OK, I'll cut to the dancing right away, like the show did: George Hamilton and Edyta Sliwinska: I thought George would be pretty good, since he's older and maybe da read more

The Office So this is the new...

The Office So this is the new arrangement, then? The Office moves to Thursdays and commences with an entire half-hour of breaking my heart? One more gut-wrenching look of longing from Jim and I'm gonna make a special weekend trip to Lake Wallenpaupack myself, just so I can jump overboard. (But not like the guy who thinks the boat's pulling a Titanic and reasonably decides to make a break for it; my plunge would have a little more "Goodbye, cruel sitcom world!" panache.) The romantic atmosphere aboard the booze cruise — and a snorkel shot or two — finally persuades Pam's fiancé, Roy, to set a wedding date, and it's the straw that breaks the lovesick camel's back. Not only does our adorably twitterpated Jim break up with his hottie ex-cheerleader of a girlfriend (an always e read more
