  • Episode Recap: Drowned World | Medium | 5/13/2008
What a show! The Medium season finale opened with Joe throwing the $2,200 cashmere robe at Meghan, and then asking for his idea back, and then he shot her. Unfortunately, he woke up. Too bad, that conniving “bottom-feeder” deserved that. When he actually did see Meghan, a.k.a, “your favorite neighborhood she-devil,” he was understandably ticked off at her. He told her he had shown the robe to Allison and she was none too happy about it. “It’s a robe. It’s... read more
  • Episode Recap: Being Joey Carmichael | Medium | 5/6/2008
It all started with a scrawny little kid beating up the school bully with his lunchbox, that only minutes before the bully had berated. Oh, how I yearned to do the same with my Partridge Family lunchbox. That would have shown any school bully I meant business. It would take several dreams for Allison to find the significance of the dream of the young boy and his twin brother sitting outside the principal’s office. But soon she would realize that the boys in her dream were the same as the... read more
  • Episode Recap: Car Troubles | Medium | 4/29/2008
“It’s a car, our car, and we love it,” Allison mused about her beloved family vehicle, and then the car went boom. What a scary way to start this episode. Luckily, it was just a dream.Al tried to relay the dream to Joe but he asked, unbelieving, “What do you mean, “blow up”? To which Allison responded with a hand gesture and sound effects to drive her point home. Allison reminisced that the Volvo was the first car they bought together. Supposedly, they’d... read more
  • Episode Recap: A Cure for What Ails You | Medium | 4/22/2008
Medium began this episode with a Peeping Tom. If a guy walks around the neighborhood, peering into people’s houses, from the sidewalk, no less, is considered a Peeping Tom then I guess I am one, too. Who doesn’t love to look into random houses and see how other people live. I always thought of Peeping Toms as rather seedy characters who crept around in bushes and spied on people. But the real mystery is, why was the girl undressing in front of the window that looked out on the main... read more
  • Episode Recap: “Partners in Crime” | Medium | 4/15/2008
Two stars shone their light on Medium this week. First, we enjoyed the return of Kurtwood Smith as Agent Edward Cooper, back to solve serial killings. Secondly, Kelly Preston (that's Mrs. John Travolta, thank you very much), appeared as a monetary angel to Joe making him a proposition he couldn’t refuse. Allison began this week’s nocturnal visions, by dreaming of Agent Cooper killing someone. She feared he had become vigilante and was going to kill the serial killer of three young... read more
  • Episode Recap: Lady Killer | Medium | 4/8/2008
“The answer to the Allison question is Allison herself.”The Arquette siblings have been out in full force for this season of Medium. Brother David directed an earlier episode and sister Rosanna starred in this episode as a woman of a certain age who seduces young men for a night of fun in the sack that never ends. The theme song for this broadcast was Take a Walk on the Wild Side, and a more suiting song there never was. The lovely narrator tells us “40 is the new 30,” (and... read more
  • Episode Recap: Wicked Games Part II | Medium | 4/1/2008
Medium surprised me tonight. I didn’t see that ending coming. That was a shocker for sure. Before we get to the nitty-gritty details, a quick recap. Last week Allison dreamed about the disappearance of Cynthia’s daughter, Suzanne, a 9-year old unsolved mystery that Al knew nothing about. Bringing up all sorts of horrible memories for Cynthia, tensions were flaring and emotions ran hot. Al was fired and hired back in a matter of a few days and a story began to unravel about... read more
  • Episode Recap: Burn Baby Burn II | Medium | 3/18/2008
There’s only one thing worse than the sound of nails on a blackboard - the dentist drill. That has got to be one of the worse sounds in the entire universe. And we were all lucky enough to hear it in the opening sequence of Medium. For the second half of a two-part arch, this was a rather lackluster Medium and a let down from the excitement of last week’s episode. I knew last week that Graham hadn’t killed his wife. So why drag it out here? Besides, aren’t most crimes... read more
  • Episode Recap: Aftertaste | Medium | 3/4/2008
OK, that is a totally gross title for this week’s totally gross Medium. But it is exactly what Allison had when she awoke after the first dream about the Senator and his cannibalistic tendencies. Did you catch her? She raised her hand to her mouth. You could almost taste it with her. And it was totally gross. Finally – the return of Devalos! Let’s hope that soldier-eating Senator can get Manny back in the DA driving seat. It’s been long overdue. Speaking of which, did Manny... read more
  • Episode Recap: “To Have and To Hold” | Medium | 1/22/2008
Or: “The Paris that Kent Built”We see the Eiffel Tower and a beautiful girl when the dulcet tones of 10CC’s “I’m Not in Love” open the show. I nearly started laughing. After last week’s Crowded House serenade, I thought whoever has been writing this season of Medium has the exact same taste in music as my sister. “I’m Not in Love” is her favorite song. 10CC, Paris, and a little Chardonnay sounds like a pretty good time, but when you add a... read more
  • Episode Recap: "But for the Grace of God" | Medium | 1/15/2008
The opening really got me; both the eeriness of the car wheel spinning slowly and then the hand of the young female victim frantically trying to grab hold of her phone. I felt exactly like Allison did when she woke up and shook, (and later when she woke up crying). Then she asked Joe how Ariel was. When she returned to the dream it was Ariel in the car hanging upside down and I jumped out of my seat. I really related to Ariel and Allison’s relationship in this episode of Medium. I’m... read more
  • Episode Recap: "And Then" | Medium | 1/8/2008
Medium's fourth season opener left me speechless. Not only was there singing and dancing, and mice and marionettes, but Anjelica Huston stopped by for her first of many visits to the show. Ahhh, so good, I don't even know where to start. Let's just get this out of the way. This was a heart-wrenching show. The premise, a very small boy gets lured to his death by a sick-o with a penchant for dancing. There have been so many stories recently about small children being killed lately, I found this... read more
  • May 16, 2007: “Everything Will Come to a Head” | Medium | 5/17/2007
Season finales make me wistful. The third part of a trilogy bringing Neve Campbell and Jason Priestley to the Dubois roost wrapped the season up nicely. I love when everything comes together and there are no loose ends. This show, while not quite as fantastic as last week’s, still held its own, especially when you consider Allison’s special talents and the risks she had to take to solve the murder of her friend/enemy PD MacColl. Everyone got a spot in this show — Manny, Scanlon... read more
  • May 9, 2007: "Heads Will Roll" | Medium | 5/10/2007
Thanks for cutting me some slack getting the Medium blog up. Now without further ado I give you:One of the best openings I’ve seen on this show. One of the best shows this season; I still have goosebumps. One creepily believable performance from Neve Campbell as sneaky, underhanded reporter, PD MacColl.Other great titles for this show would have been, “Life Needs Your Attention” or “Stop the Murderer, Stop the Murder”. Where have I heard something like that before? Any... read more
  • May 2, 2007: “Head Games” | Medium | 5/3/2007
Show of hands, who thought this was another fantastic Medium? Yeah, me too. 90210’s Luke Perry, nay, Jason Priestley, my bad, showed up as a nasty, lying gambler. But when his wife, Natalie, vindictively turned off the game right before a Big 3 pointer, I found myself saying, "I’d kill her." Those two have a really special marriage.I find that it’s never good when someone who’s been threatened is in the shower… Psycho! Eek, eek, eek! Joe said, “You always grab your... read more
  • April 25, 2007: No One to Watch Over Me | Medium | 4/26/2007
Patricia and Jake came on before the show started to talk about the previous show and to offer their condolences for the victims and families of the Virginia Tech killings last week. It was a nice touch and something I wished they hadn’t needed to do. The opening scene with Allison on her sleigh bed in a snowstorm was utterly reminiscent of the movie Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind. I loved that movie, so it made me very excited to see this show, however hard it was to watch. So when... read more
  • March 7, 2007: “The Boy Next Door” | Medium | 3/8/2007
Ooh, that was such a good Medium! We get to finally hear the story of how Allison and Joe met. Ariel is nonplussed that their chance meeting happened at a place called "Fat Bobby’s." But the truth of the matter was that their paths had crossed three years earlier at a science fair. That’s not as uncommon as one might think. When I dated my first boyfriend, he took me to a concert where the guy I dated after him was playing in the headlining band. I didn’t meet boyfriend No. 2... read more
  • February 28, 2007: “We Had a Dream” | Medium | 3/1/2007
Eric Stoltz makes a stunning guest re-appearance as the creepy, Creepsville serial killer, Sonny Troyer. He and Allison share the same dreams about the girls he is going to murder, and it gets a little scarier when he takes her out of the dream world and makes her the subject of his dreams.Really telling lines: • Allison to the Department of Homeland Security: “I’d rather not talk about how I know a plane is going to crash 10 days before it happens.” (This is not going to... read more
  • February 21, 2007: "Second Opinion" | Medium | 2/22/2007
It took me several minutes to realize that the guy in the glasses was Joe, at which point I thought, “Oh my god, Joe looks so old and beleaguered.” Marie is sick and dying. It was a good thing Allison woke up.... What a horrible dream to open up on. I hate the dreams that are so sad you burst into tears as soon as you wake up or worse, when you wake up already crying. This was a much more somber show than last week’s. But once we got going, this one turned out to be a little... read more
  • February 14, 2007: “The One Behind the Wheel” | Medium | 2/15/2007
Preferred alternative title: "This Is Not from a Bottle"Allison is not herself and is speaking French! Her name is Sandra. What? Once again, the writers have outdone themselves: They had a fantastic premise, in which the soul of a dead person inhabiting Allison’s matronly body to turn it into a sexy, trash-talking, gym-suit-wearing one. Some fantastic lines in this episode included the following charmers with Allison-as-Sandra to Joe: “Turn around; this isn’t... read more
