I'm listening to Dave Matthews as I'm writing this commentary and I’m the teensiest bit disappointed that his role on House tonight was so limited. However, since he is a professional musician and not an actor, maybe it's best that he not stray too far afield. The only other acting I've seen him do was in Because of Winn-Dixie, a movie I recently viewed at the behest of fellow TV Guide blogger Jennifer Sankowski. Honestly, the role was similar, and Matthews was quite good in both. How could you not be touched by the story of Patrick (Matthews), a musical savant whose hand suffers inexplicable muscle contractions while performing in concert? Patrick's incredible musical abilities manifested themselves after he survived a bus accident that killed his mother. Now, at 35, Patrick is a child-like adult cared for by a father (Kurtwood Smith) who sees Patrick's ability as a gift rather than the medical abnormality it is. But when you pair Patrick's condition with a depressed House who... read more
  • House Cues Up Dave Matthews | Today's News: Our Take | 1/8/2007
As you undoubtedly first read on Sunday in the never-sleeping Ausiello Report, Grammy-winning recording artist Dave Matthews is being admitted for a House call, guesting on a March episode as a savant and virtuoso pianist who suffered a neurological impairment as the result of a childhood accident. That '70s Show's Kurtwood Smith plays Matthews' father — a former physician, natch — who is faced with a potentially life-altering decision about his son's treatment. read more
  • House Casting News! | Today's News: Our Take | 1/7/2007
I just received a tip that Grammy winner Dave Matthews (of Dave Matthews Band fame) will guest-star on House this February. According to my spy, the "Crash" crooner will play the show's victim of the week — in this case, a pianist (tee-hee) who comes down with a (shocker!) mysterious illness. Unless Wikipedia is I'm mistaken, this is Matthews' first major acting gig on the small screen. His film credits include 2003's Where the Red Fern Grows, 2005's Because of Winn-Dixie and the upcoming indie Lake City. While we're playing House, someone needs to e-mail me and ask about the big House-Cuddy episode coming up later this season. Otherwise, I may forget to mention it in this week's Ask Ausiello. read more
