When the season wrapped up, Adam finally learned that his mom, played by Laura Linney, was fighting cancer. When the Showtime series returns on Monday (10:30/9:30c), Adam will begin to deal with possibility of death from a therapist his parents force on him.

When Cathy (Laura Linney) found out she had melanoma on The Big C last season, she kicked her husband out of the house, bought a convertible and wasn't afraid to tell anyone how she really felt.

What she didn't do was tell her family and friends about her life-altering diagnosis (save for her disgruntled neighbor, Marlene, who later committed suicide).

Months later, Cathy's cancer is out in the open — for the most part — and now that she has been forced to face her disease, she's also ready to... read more

The Big C Season Finale: Is Cathy Ready to Fight?

For a show focused on mortality, few fans of The Big C saw Marlene's sudden suicide coming. Last week, viewers mourned the loss of Cathy's curmudgeonly neighbor-turned-confidant after she decided to end her battle with Alzheimer's.

"The idea came about to have that character die, and I was personally like, 'We could never!'"
