In the waning carefree days of high school, senior super jock Will Armer (Lane Caudell) faces the most important decision of his young life when he must choose between the safe college route and the coveted but risky shot at a baseball career. Influenced by his parents (William Windom and Julie Adams) and supported by his girlfriend (Ann Dusenberry) and best buddy (Darby Hinton), Will knows that he alone will have to live with his decision.

In 1719, the Mainwaring family inherits an island off the Carolina coast and establishes a homestead there. Thomas (Brendan Dillon) and his wife, Devon (Kate Manx), may own the land, but a brutish fisherman named Gates (Rip Torn) and his crew don't intend to leave. The escalating feud results in bloodshed, but the tides turn when a mysterious man (James Mason) washes ashore and takes the family's side in this period drama.
