This is a completely hand-drawn animation I made on a SINGLE piece of 14x17 paper with charcoal and charcoal pencil, shot with a digital video camera with program FrameThief, so that I could sync the animation with the music, by Beethoven. There are over 300 drawings streamed together, all done on this single canvas! In order to make each new, additional drawing and line of animation, I would erase the previous drawing and draw right over it, very meticulously, so as not to disturb the rest of the drawing and background. I used this technique, also utilized by popular iconic artist William Kentridge, in order to create a trace of smeared movement from all of the previous drawings. It was truthfully a pretty grueling process, which I worked on for multiple straight days. I was not sure how it would turn out until I had completed the entire animation and played it back with the music, but I was ultimately satisfied with the final result.
NOTE, IMPORTANT:
THIS ANIMATION WAS MEANT TO BE SEEN ON A LARGE SCREEN, LIKE A TV SET OR A PROJECTOR SCREEN, SO PLEASE TRY TO VIEW IT ON THE LARGEST SCREEN YOU CAN FOR THE BEST POSSIBLE VISUAL EXPERIENCE! ALSO, BE SURE TO HAVE THE SOUND UP BECAUSE THE MUSIC IS SOFT. THANK YOU!
Sincerely, Caroline
