Danica McKellar, Inspector Mom
Best known for her sweet, endearing role as The Wonder Years' Winnie, Danica McKellar has come a long way from drive-ins and school dances. Playing a deep-digging journalist-turned-mom in Lifetime Movie Network's Inspector Mom (premiering Saturday, Nov. 18, at 8 pm/ET), McKellar got a taste of motherhood while solving crimes — and she had a great time doing it. TVGuide.com asked the actress why she chose this project — you'll never guess who convinced her to go through with it! — and how "boot camp" made her a better actor.

I meant to watch Ray Romano's return to TV on The King of Queens, I really did. Especially since the commercial of Ray calling his mom to see if he could stay over at Doug's made me chuckle every time I saw it (and trust me, it was on a lot). But I just got home too late. And I know there will probably be an angry e-mail from several of you asking, "Why bother mentioning it at all if you didn't actually watch it?" I am trying to preempt the storm of e-mails saying we were stupid for not covering it. Sorry all, but I did make it home in time to catch How I Met Your Mother, which was really on tonight. You knew her and loved her as The Wonder Years' sweet Winnie Cooper, but it's time to face facts: Danica McKellar has grown up — and then some, looking at her June lad-mag layout — and her career ops have matured with her. Having landed memorable gigs on The West Wing, NYPD Blue and Strong Medicine, she can next be seen braving Big Oil and a bad storm in Sci Fi Channel's Path of Destruction, premiering Sept. 24 at 9 pm/ET. Just as she wrapped her first fright flick and was readying to jet off to Hawaii, TVGuide.com chatted up Winn— er, Ms. McKellar.

This summer, Wonder Years moppet Fred Savage, now 28, married his childhood neighbor Jennifer Stone, also 28, in Los Angeles. But where was his other dream girl next door? We're thinking of Winnie Cooper (aka Danica McKellar), who was Kevin Arnold's crush throughout the classic dramedy series. Rumor has it Mrs. Savage objected to her attending the wedding....
"You are not the first person who has said that," McKellar, 29, tells TV Guide Online with a laugh. "Fred and I stay in touch, but I was out of town. People say, 'Oh, you didn't go because the wife didn't want you there. She's jealous!' But no. Jenny is very sweet. I've met her several times. She's adorable.
"Fred and I are much more like brother and sister," says the actress, who more recently played Elsie Snuffin on The West Wing. "We had a crush on each other in the very beginning but he ended up becoming my annoying little brother."
This doesn't mean McKell
