A Night Out With Happy Endings

Eliza Coupe, Casey Wilson and Elisha Cuthbert

Crowded into a corner booth at the Happy Ending bar in Hollywood, the stars of ABC's Happy Endings can't stop ribbing Adam Pally. "Are you dipping a nacho in ranch dressing?!" asks Damon Wayans Jr. "It's blue cheese, my man!" replies Pally as he stuffs a chip... read more

Eliza Coupe on Egg Babies and Her Black Swan Moment That Might've Saved Happy Endings

Eliza Coupe

Happy Endings had all the ingredients for a quick midseason burn-off show: It premiered in April in a 10 p.m. time slot with back-to-back episodes that aired out of order. But the sharp-tongued, pop culture-referencing sitcom soon developed a devoted following to earn a surprising renewal. "I think it was the fifth episode where I was Max's beard and Penny dated [the guy named] Hitler that it started clicking," Eliza Coupe, who plays Jane, tells TVGuide.com. "It was such a well-written episode. I felt like that was when people got into it." See what else the actress has to say about the show's "amazing" (or is it "a-mah-zing"?) fans, why Brad and Jane are not the Drapers, and Jane's quest this week to find her egg baby — the child she believes was conceived from an egg she donated in college.

Matt's Guide to Tuesday TV: New Girl, Awkward Finale, Glee and a British ER

Zooey Deschanel

A week ago, most critics couldn't stop gushing over how adorable (or "adork-able") Zooey Deschanel is as Fox's delightful New Girl, and judging from last Tuesday's opening-night ratings, which actually improved over its Glee lead-in, the TV audience would seem to agree. They won't be disappointed in tonight's charmer of a second outing (9:01/8:01c). What struck me as I previewed the episode is that as easy as it is to fall for Zooey's pixie-ish pizzazz as Jess, it would hardly matter if it weren't for her invaluable back-up crew of supporting players.

New Girl Finds Its New Man — and Here's How It Happened

Lamorne Morris

Fox's highly anticipated Zooey Deschanel comedy New Girl has finally solved its Damon Wayans, Jr. problem.

Newcomer Lamorne Morris has joined the cast as Winston, a former basketball player who returns to town — and to the apartment that bears his name on the lease. Winston kicks out Wayans' character, Coach, who had been subletting the room.

Morris is stepping in to fill the void left by Wayans, who had to drop out of New Girl because he was already starring in ABC's Happy Endings, which received a surprise second season renewal.

Executive producer Liz Meriwether admits that... read more

Watercooler: Let's Hear It for Happy Endings

Happy Endings

More people need to be watching Happy Endings. Period.

A grower more than shower, Happy originally failed to wow the masses when it debuted amid a schedule already crowded with Friends-like ensembles (Perfect Couples, Mad Love, Traffic Light) that all felt the same. But as the weeks have passed, so too has the feeling that we're watching a cookie-cutter comedy. The dialogue is snappy and hip ("shut your whore mouth" is a keeper), the cast is charming, and, for a certain demographic, the characters are the kind you look forward to spending time with... read more

Roush Review: Not Happy With New Network Comedies

Elisha Cuthbert

It probably didn't help that I got an advance copy of this week's hilarious episode of Modern Family. But after laughing fairly continuously for an entire half-hour of farcical mayhem (involving Cam staging a middle-school musical), inspired innuendo (involving an ad Phil plasters on the sides of the family mini-van) and snark-tinged sentiment (involving a visit from Jay's brother), it was especially hard to muster much enthusiasm for the latest sitcom ...
