The Monday Playlist: A Bones Wedding, Mom Gets Help, Fallon's Pearl Jam Week

Pearl Jam

Most Bones fans will likely agree with its title character (Emily Deschanel) when Brennan declares to her intended, Booth (David Boreanaz), "We've waited long enough." The wait is over, as the brusque forensic anthropologist and her impetuous FBI baby-daddy finally head to the altar — although for most of this endearing episode (Monday, 8/7c), nearly everyone in the Jeffersonian lab, including a full complement of returning Squints, is laying bets that the wedding will never happen. There's a new case, after all, and the real challenge is to keep Bones from becoming too distracted. Cyndi Lauper (returning as psychic Avalon Harmonia) is on hand to perform at the ceremony, but what she should really be singing is "Get Tempe to the Church on Time." There are additional complications and intimations of cold feet before the lovely finish, but Angela (Michaela Conlin) probably says it best: "You don't want your fingers to smell like death when Booth puts on the ring."

She's right. And: ew.

David Boreanaz and Emily Deschanel have spent a week at Walt Disney's historic Golden Oak Ranch in Santa Clarita, Calif. But this is not a relaxing getaway for the Bones stars. They are here shooting scenes in which their characters, Special Agent Seeley Booth and Dr. Temperance Brennan, go undercover as their trashy alter egos Tony and Roxy to investigate a murder at a couples' retreat. During a break in filming, Boreanaz, sporting a tank top, red velour sweats and a thick gold chain, sits next to his leading lady, who is dressed down in tight blue slacks and oversize shades, to talk about the drama's ninth season. It's the year the crime-solving duo say "I do" in a guest-star-filled wedding (Ryan O'Neal and... read more

The Tuesday Playlist: Brilliantly Awkward, Central Park Five, Deadliest Catch

Ashley Rickards, Brett Davern

How did any of us survive high school? Forget grades. We're talking insecurities, anxieties and social terrors, which have rarely found such vivid comic voice as in MTV's wonderful comedy Awkward, which begins a third season of emotionally harrowing hilarity with back-to-back episodes (Tuesday, 10/9c).

It's junior year (or "the beginning of the end") for the show's self-consciously angsty narrator/blogger Jenna (the terrific Ashley Rickards), who you'd think might be in a happier place having spent the summer cocooned with full-time no-longer-secret boyfriend Matty (Beau Mirchoff). No such luck. With other friends having spent their off time in Europe, hooking up and changing their looks without keeping her in the loop, Jenna worries she's being sidelined, left behind, forgotten. It doesn't help that her sadistic tyrant of a new creative-writing teacher, the heartless Mr. Hart (Anthony Michael Hall), burrows into her fragile psyche with the very first assignment: "Write about your greatest fear." Where to begin?
