Leah Remini has certainly gotten her share of attention this year.
Following her very public split with the Church of Scientology, the actress now finds herself in a different kind of spotlight, on the ballroom floor each week on Dancing with the Stars. Remini and partner Tony Dovolani are one of the eight remaining couples on Season 17 of Dancing. The former King of Queens star chatted with TVGuide.com recently about her big turnaround last week, keeping her emotions in check during rehearsals, and which fellow cast member she describes as her "support system at work."
By all accounts, the weekly rehearsals for contestants on Dancing with the Stars require a tremendous amount of physical strain and mental focus. Unfortunately, Brant Daugherty wasn't feeling up to par in either area before performing last week's quickstep. The Pretty Little Liars star was mugged outside of his apartment immediately following his routine the previous week, and also had to contend with a foot injury ahead of Week 3. Still, that didn't stop him and partner Peta Murgatroyd from finishing in first place for the night, with a score of 27. TVGuide.com spoke with Daugherty about how he dealt with the distractions, and what he and Murgatroyd have in store for viewers this week.
After Week 1 of Dancing with the Stars, Bill Nye and Tyne Stecklein (aka "Team #HotKnowledge," in the Twitterverse) are in last place, with their cha-cha earning a lowly 14 points from the judges. But they've emerged as early fan favorites in the competition, thanks in part to nostalgic voters who are familiar with Bill Nye the Science Guy. And Nye, for one, is determined to step it up this week. In fact, when TVGuide.com chatted with the Science Guy on Thursday, he apologized for calling a few of minutes late because he was "rockin' out" in his kitchen, practicing his steps for the paso doble. Will those round-the-clock rehearsals pay off?
Read our full interview below for Nye's preview of his next routine. Plus: See why he thought the judges' critiques were "harsh" this week and get his thoughts on being the underdog in the competition:
