Thursday TV: Rectify Finale, Simpsons Marathon

The upcoming fall season will be lucky to generate even a fraction as many hits as this unusually busy TV summer produced, a list of keepers that includes Outlander, The Strain, The Knick, The Last Ship, Undateable, to name just a few. (Even something as underwhelming as AMC's Halt and Catch Fire, which didn't, has been renewed by its increasingly desperate network, and I'm hoping for good news about the future of WGN America's Manhattan and WE's The Divide.)

The Monday Playlist: An Uneasy Life After Death Row on Rectify, Plus Brain Games

"It's not UN-weird," says the solemn and seriously disoriented Daniel Holden (a revelatory Aden Young), who's adjusting to life outside of prison after 19 years on death row, to which he was sentenced as a teen for a murder that new evidence suggests he may not have committed. Impeccably written and acted, quietly suspenseful, almost unbearably sad in its aching poignancy, Sundance Channel's six-hour drama series Rectify explores the impact of freedom on the overwhelmed Daniel, his grateful yet apprehensive family and the hostile Georgia small town that still condemns him. read more

Was Jim and Callie's beer date on The Glades last week the start of a new beginning?

"Yes, definitely," Kiele Sanchez, who plays Callie, tells "I think it's the perfect time for them to start over. They were misconnecting and miscommunicating what it is that they really wanted. They weren't on the same page at all, but now they are and I think you see that this week."

October 25, 2006: Pieces of the Truth

This time, we pick up exactly where we left off: missiles soaring across the sky and residents of Jericho running in every direction. Johnston says the nearest place the missiles could be coming from is Wyoming, 100 miles away, and Hawkins is on his computer, as frantic as I've ever seen him, sweat lining his brow. An EMP (electromagnetic pulse) killed the power. Everything's dead. All of a sudden it's two weeks later and for the first time we see Jake and Dale have a one-on-one interaction. Things are tense around town and even quiet Dale has a little anger inside of him. But no one seems as angry as Mitchell Cafferty (Clayne Crawford), strolling back into town for some warm beer at Bailey's and some nasty words for Jake. At least we're getting some insight into Jake's past and the trouble that ran him out of town.Uncle Sam/IRS/Mimi visits Stanley and Bonnie, clearly wanting nothing to do with the roosters roaming around. Her brilliant idea of staying at their farm and deducting her... read more
