Adjust Your Expectations

They're over. Or are they? Ellen Pompeo, Patrick Dempsey, Grey's Anatomy by Scott Garfield/ABC

Episode Recap A Change is Gonna ComeWatching the season premiere tonight was like welcoming an old friend back into your home It was so easy to slip back into Greys world and get caught up in all of the amazing moments that make this show so much fun to watch And while I expected the night to start off on a somber note by addressing the CristinaBurke fallout I was pleasantly surprised by the way the attendees paid tribute to Bailey by giving their new interns the same exact first-day speech Bailey had given them In fact I was pleased to see Cristina was doing just fine as she told her interns Dont suck up to me I already hate you Same old Cristina so far Surprisingly Meredith also seemed to be doing just fine despite not having seen Derek in seventeen days Izzie on the other hand was bitter that George had all but disappeared after she told him that she loved him Of course we all know how that storyline ended but lets not get ahead of ourselves read more

Nine Things You Don't Know about Grey's Chyler Leigh

Chyler Leigh, Grey’s Anatomy

It was like déjà vu from the very first episode of Grey's Anatomy (premiering tonight at 9pm/ET, ABC). Late last season, Dr. Derek "McDreamy" Shepherd met a young babe, played by Chyler Leigh, in the Emerald City Bar. Though they flirted, this time he stopped short of showing her his bedside manner. And thank heavens — the girl in question turned out to be Lexie Grey, Meredith's half sister and the newest addition to Seattle Grace's intern program. "We met with a lot of young actresses, but Chyler stood out — she had a quality that felt right and real to me," creator Shonda Rhimes says about choosing Grey's newest cast member. "It felt like she could be Meredith's sister, but she had a depth that was very interesting." Here, the 25-year-old North Ca read more

Breaking Grey's/Private Practice Casting News!

Chyler Leigh by Scott Garfield/ABC; KaDee Strickland by John Sciulli/WireImage.com

Focus groups be damned!Grey's Anatomy has promoted Chyler Leigh (aka Mer's McDreaming half-sis Lexie) to a series regular, an ABC Studios rep confirms. The news comes on the heels of my vodcast report that test audiences chewed up and spit out the character during a recent focus group. To be fair, her brief flirtation with Derek didn't exactly help her cause. In sort of related news, Grey's 2.0 (aka Private Practice) has tapped KaDee Strickland (The Wedding Bells) to play a doctor and hospital administrator. She too will be a series regular. read more

I hear that Mer's sister on ...

Question: I hear that Mer's sister on Grey's Anatomy (aka Chyler Leigh) will be made a series regular next season. Seriously?

Answer: Nothing official yet, but that's what I'm hearing, too. Speaking of Grey's, the title of the season premiere just landed on my lap, and, considering what Shonda Rhimes put us through in that finale, it sounds very promising. It's called, "A Change Is Gonna Come."

May 17, 2007: Didn't We Almost Have It All

I can't decide what I was most surprised about since I thought there were multiple shockers in this season's finale episode. So I will make a list of things that I did not see coming:— I did not expect Burke to call off the wedding. If anyone was going to put a stop to it, I thought it would've been Cristina. Apparently, Burke could tell Cristina just wasn't ready.— I did not expect George to be the only intern that didn't pass the exam. Alex would've been more predictable.— I did not expect Callie to be named new chief resident over Bailey.— I did not expect Izzie to (gag me) profess her undying love to George with hopes that he would reciprocate the feelings (once again, gag me). While I'm on the subject of shockers, let me also list things that were more predictable and not shocking:— I was not surprised that Rebecca's husband Jeff finally showed up, and she wanted Alex to give her a reason to not return to her hubby. I was pleased that Jeff was played by ... read more

McDreamy's New Gal: Just What the Doctor Ordered

Patrick Dempsey and Chyler Leigh in Grey's Anatomy by Scott Garfield/ABC

I know, I know — it was just one scene. But as those who read Ask Ausiello know, Chyler Leigh — aka the "forward" young woman who cozied up to Patrick Dempsey's Derek at the end of last week's Grey's Anatomy — is likely a keeper, and that gives this fan of ABC's top drama a new hope.See, "dark and twisty" Meredith is not working for me. Of course, I am the same guy who took the character to task for not being serious about her work, her supposed career, but what Grey's has been attempting via Mer's own near-death experience and the actual passing of her mother and stepmother isn't solving the problem. Sure, it's giving Ellen Pompeo some "meat" to chew on — assuredly a welcome respite from the "I don't snore" silliness — but it doesn't make an especially enjoyable character to watch. When you're not entirely aghast that your protagonist just got wailed on by her drunken dad, something is wrong.Enter "forward" gal. Her and Derek's meeting was likely meant to e... read more

May 10, 2007: Testing 1-2-3

How many of you were sitting there waiting for somebody to ask Addison how L.A. was? Almost the entire hour went by and Sloan finally asked her: "How was L.A.?" Addison replied with, "L.A. was different." And different would be the perfect way to describe the opinions expressed in the comments section last week. I thank you for your honesty, but most importantly, for respecting the opinions of others (including mine). Hey, different strokes for different folks, right? Now, onto this episode...Wow. For those of you who were like me and felt really bad for Meredith after her father Thatcher slapped her last week, how about this time? I'm going to sound like a broken record, but sometimes the best acting is reacting. The way Ellen Pompeo reacted as Meredith while Thatcher yelled at her, blaming her for Susan's death, was acting at its best. I just wanted to hug her. Just like the Chief did toward the end. I love their relationship. Meredith: "Just because you slept with my mother, it d... read more

Reunion 1991 Soundtrack: R.E.M....

Reunion1991 Soundtrack: R.E.M. "Losing My Religion"; Jesus Jones "Right Here, Right Now"; EMF "Unbelievable"; James "Top of the World." I gotta tell you — Chyler Leigh was fierce while George Newbern was just plain scary. The "sleeping with the enemy" story line brought out some good performances. Seriously. I never knew that Newbern could be such a good lurker. He always seems to play nice guys. AbusivePaul isn't nice. At all. And our Carla has been trapped in a relationship with him in order to protect Sam's kid. After she engineered an escape for Amy (to her adopted mother), she trained a gun on him and made him call the police and tell them all was well.
