This is the tragic story of Dr. David Weiner, a public Defense Attorney and a popular Law Faculty lecturer, who at the height of his career, shortly after succeeding, for the first time in Israel's history, in gaining a retrial for a murder case that had been denied three times previously, found himself unintentionally ensnared in the sensational trial of a murdered judge in which another client of his was implicated. When he attempted to fulfill his duty by helping the justice system prevent another possible murder, he was driven by this justice system into a position where his honesty and sincere desire to be of service became exploited as a channel of information that contradicted his legal obligations as a defense attorney, and which forced him into an impossible legal and ethical situation from which he saw no escape. When he was humiliated during a brutal police investigation, was wrongfully informed that his client-attorney privilege had been removed, that he himself was suspected of some illegal conspiracy with his client, and that, contrary to known law practice, he would have to appear in court to testify against his client, a man with known underworld connections, David felt that his integrity and professional standing had been dishonored, his family was in danger, and that suicide was the only escape.
