Gavin Hooks, a student in a program that pairs the underprivileged and mentally disabled kids, is accidentally killed during a confrontation with school security guard Robert Cousins. Christopher Michaels, Gavin's mentally impaired "buddy", witnesses the murder but escapes Cousins, leaving behind a cassette tape of Beethoven as the only clue to his identity.
