Exclusive: Underbelly Star Joins CSI Sitcom Spoof

Rachael Harris by Jean-Paul Aussenard/WireImage.com, Christine Baranski by Jim Spellman/WireImage.com

It's not Christine Baranski, but this'll do nicely. The sublime Rachael Harris (Notes from the Underbelly, Fat Actress) will play even-tempered sidekick to Cybill Shepherd's Katey Sagal's unhinged sitcom diva in that stuntastic episode of CSI penned by Two and a Half Men scribes Chuck Lorre and Lee Aronsohn. And should there be any lingering doubts that Lorre and Aronsohn modeled Sagal and Harris' characters after Shepherd and Baranski, both of whom the writers worked with on Cybill, this next little tidbit should erase them: Sources confirm what I hinted at last August, that the duo first offered the second-banana role to Baranski herself. That's right, they wanted Baranski to play Baranski! But for whatever reason — possibly this one — she wasn't able to do it. Um, have I told you lately how much I'm looking forward to this episode? read more

OFFICE SPACE FOR RENT?

Speaking of casting... although Office writer-producer Larry Wilmore has landed an acting gig in CBS' untitled Christine Baranski/Ed O'Neill sitcom, even if the pilot gets picked up, the Hollywood Reporter hints that he may be able to continue on as a consultant for my favorite NBC laffer. What? Am I not allowed to play favorites?

Question: There's a movie about a burglar who breaks into a house on Christmas Eve; the house belongs to a couple who bicker constantly. Their son lives there, too, and a bunch of awful relatives are on their way over for Christmas. In the end the dad and son help the burglar out. Can you tell me what it is?

Answer: It's the mean-spirited The Ref (1994), which stars Judy Davis and Kevin Spacey as the squabbling parents, Dennis Leary as the burglar who takes them hostage in their own home, and the incomparable Christine Baranski as the bitchy sister-in-law who can make the word "slip read more

I still kind of like this show,...

I still kind of like this show, and I don't think I am the only one who does, as they've managed to wrangle some pretty decent guest stars. This week  Christine Baranski was Melinda's meddling mother-in-law and Sex and the City's David Eigenberg was a distraught dad. Not to mention the most adorable kid actor who played the 6-year-old who was a victim of a train accident. Melinda's assignment this week was to let the tiny tot know that he was dead, not just lost, and to reunite him with his family and act as a grief counselor. I know she keeps insisting that she doesn't want money for her helping, but does her always-empty antiques shop make enough to support her and Andrea and help pay for her new house? Although I guess she's saving cash by always dressing in clothes that look like she borrowed them from work. read more
